Pot of Greed and Pot of Avarice are both good, depending on the situation. Some people prefer Pot of Greed, while other prefer Pot of Avarice.

Pot of Greed is useful if you want to draw cards. Every card you draw is crucial for winning a duel or getting advantage.

Pot of Avarice is a bit challenging to use, because if you want to activate it, you need at least 5 monsters. Those 5 monsters you may add to your Deck from your Graveyard are probably very important, especially if they are Effect Monsters. After you add monsters to your deck, you draw 2 cards.

Both of them are good. Both cards' usefulness greatly depend on the situation.

Just remember, always look at every cards usefulness, not just it's negative side.

Pot of Greed only has 2 negatives.

1. If you only have 1 card left in your deck, you lose.

2. Pot of Greed goes to the graveyard after it's used.

Pot of Greed can be used in ANY situation, except situations when Avarice can't be used either, like when your opponent has Horus at lvl 8 (You can still beg your opponent to allow it, though :P).

Pot of Greed=2 cards for free

Pot of Avarice=2 cards for 5 monsters in grave (most likely with 1000- LP left)

PoA is only good for Exodia Decks and or monster scraping decks (Five-Headed Dragon)

Except that it murders Exodia decks by making the deck fatter, and murders monster-scrapping decks by removing targets for Overload Fusion/Dragon's Mirror/etc.
