The whole point of a Gishki Deck is to spam Level 8s, clearing the field by returning monsters to Deck, through the sole use of Soul Ogre. Having 2800 ATK is no small joke, and Gustkrake, for being the Level 6, does the hand rape significantly well. You really don't need Levianima since you're real plusses come from the combined uses of Soul Ogre, Salvage, and even the Ritual Spell. There's no guarantee that you can really plus off of Levianima, since you could be running it into a D-Prison or something else. Also, Mind Augus serves as a better general "tech" than Gustkrake, since everything is so Graveyard-oriented nowadays. Wouldn't it suit you better to stopping Graveyard plays than raping your opponent's hand? I don't really mind players who are running both variants, but, like newhat said, Levianima is risky. Agro
Gishki's don't need to OTK. Levianima is the best Gishki Ritual after Zeal Gigas. Levianima virtually always +'s. (only time I think of it not plussing is when it gets taken out before it attacks or if it gets fiendish chained) I still don't see why you wouldn't run it over Soul Ogre. Aerion Brightflame
Or run both it and Soul Ogre for added draw through trade in? With the recylcing Gishki have the discard is a luaghable cost. Seriously though, why would you call free draws each turn your opponent doesn't have an out a bad thing? OTK doesn't even need to be the goal of sole gishki, they can do control better than most as well.

It's still outclassed by the Level 8 Soul Ogre in terms of mechanics.
Levianima is incredible. The reason Gishkis weren't exactly viable until now is the same reason why Prophecies aren't viable in the TCG; Prophecies lack a good Draw Engine. They have big and powerful boss monsters, they have incredible searching power, and now Gishkis have a draw engine on legs. It doesn't matter if one gets D-Prisoned because Gishkis have to attack to win anyways, and one of your monsters would be hit regardless. Besides, you can just run Lance to help out with that.
If you don't OTK or stop your opponents from getting off their OTKs in some way, you're not viable.
Bullsh*t. There are plenty of decks that don't OTK nor do they have to stop the opponent's OTKs (Partly because they aren't using OTKs either). For example: Gravekeepers, Geargias, HEROes. Gishkis play without OTKing because they can't OTK. Zeal Gigas is about the only way they can. Now, Gishkis will be a hell of a lot better once Gigas comes out (Which should be soon, since it will be in DT7B), but for now, Aggro/Control styles are their best options. Getting a draw engine with Levianima and Trade-Ins lets you keep good hand advantage. Controlling the field with Soul Ogre lets you eliminate problem monsters in one of the most efficient ways possible. Raping the hand with Gustkraken adds onto the hand advantage, and lets you better predict your opponent's moves. Putting pressure on the opponent by either removing their Graveyard resources or recycling your own used-up backrow and staples with Mind Augus is good on its own mid-game.
Except when they counter your OTK with Gorz...
That's one of three reasons I run Trag in Gishkis.
