November 9th: Abyss Rising

Recommended Posts

AND EVERYTHING COMES POURING OUT.

Anyway, Abyss Rising comes out on Friday, November 9th (apparently) and with that will bring several new decks into the [s]moray[/s]foray. Since I'll be at a regionals on the 10th and another on the 17th, well... let's talk siding! Against the new decks... because my body isn't ready and I don't want to think about it too hard right now.

We're assuming Atlanteans will make a splash- pun not intended- and Demmy is convinced that Prophecies will too. I'm probably missing something *cough*madolches*cough* but I don't care, so that's okay.

Seeing as I don't want to play Atlanteans or Prophecies because I like not spending too much money, let's discuss how to side against them.

Discuss.

My issue with Debunk is that it'll only hit 1 card. Okay, that's fine, except at that same point, an Atlantean player will probably have activated 3 other effects and influenced which one I could negate. Debunk just doesn't do enough to handle all the issues that Atlanteans can throw at you.

I kinda like Soul Drain, just to completely destroy their consistency, and of course Macro Cosmos will just wreck them. But after that, I really don't see THE card to side in against them.'

And then Prophecies is basically just Puppet Plant.

Soul drain,gg atlanteans?

They'll be slowed down a bit until they get diva into gungnir.
Play Soul Drain AND Skill Drain. Like a pro.

Forbidden Graveyard might work for mermails, I'm not sure if it'll miss timing when chained to an atlantean effect (I have little to no knowledge on effect timings and chaining). It could always be activated at the start of the turn, but your opponent would just wait til next turn to make a play.

What else do you want, water imprisoning mirror?
Yes plz.

Actually, Rivalry of warlords isn't TOO bad of a play. At least when it comes to the Diva-Birdman combo. It kinda fails against Megalo

Really, Debunk is only useful against Megalo or to stop the Seahorsemen plays.

Depends what you're playing yourself though.

For Atlanteans/Mermails, a playset of Rai-Ohs pretty much deals with them (or Doomcaliber if you want). For decks that are consistent enough, Macro Cosmos is fine too. To be honest, you have to change to playstyle too, which is the more important thing. Knowing that they're going to be swarming faster than you, it's more consistent to just counter their moves. Doesn't necessarily mean you can slow down though. If you're in a hilarious mood, play Weed Out 4 te lolz.

On a different note, I do think that, if you're running Prophecies, you should side The Grand Spellbook Tower (seems Field Spell wars is a real thing). But, anyway, against Prophecies, Rai-Oh is the catch-all. Gozen Match is decent too, as is Puppet Plant.

Gozen is hilarious against prophecy if your deck can spare it. Can't tag out to junon if she isn't a viable target.

Basically, though Prophecies can deal with it.

Always main the tower. It's draw power in a floater.
Rai-Oh isn't quite so devastating, but Prophecies do suffer from Gishki syndrome, since half their cards are searchers and a third of the other stuff is weenie monsters.

Also, Macro Cosmos is probably about the biggest hurt on Prophecies. It makes Life and the Tower dead and prevents all the crazy recycling shenanigans.
Also guys Nat Beast is Prophecy's worst enemy.

Watch Giant Soldier of Steel just be a Normal Monster, Level 5 Machine with no use at all.

What came to mind when I read this.

I actually think it's going to be a Level 4 Normal Machine with no use at all.
Either that or completely broken.
