ITT: We try and justify Rescue Rabbit.

We all know you can run like 2 Rabbit, 3 specific Normals, and no other Normal monsters. Why would you care? As long as you can open Rabbit to make Laggia/Ophion/Gigant X/etc, that's all that matters.
So outside of Xyz shenanigans, does Rabbit truly have any redeeming qualities?

It's clear they TRIED so hard to balance it. They took all of Rescue Cat's OPed factors and made sure you couldn't do anything with them to abuse it.

 

-Rescue Cat was often recruited with Summoner Monk and/or Giant Rat.

 

Solution: Rescue Rabbit cannot be SSed from the Deck.

 

-Rescue Cat was frequently Special Summoned from the Graveyard to spam its effect easily.

 

Solution: Rescue Rabbit banishes itself to activate.

 

-Rescue Cat was still commonly accessible to be used multiple times a turn.

 

Solution: Rescue Rabbit and all copies of it can only be used once per turn.

 

-Rescue Cat could Summon a variety of different monsters to fit the situation, either by their effect, or by Levels.

 

Solution: Rescue Rabbit Special Summons Normal Monsters, and they must have the same name.

 

There, all set to be a balanced card to support Xyz, right?

 

Except they overlooked that the Xyz themselves would be too good. Rescue Cat was limited to Beast monsters, and only Level 3 or below. Rescue Rabbit can Summon Level 4 monsters of ANY Type. They just need the same name and be Normal Monsters.

 

So, Rescue Rabbit is the fastest, most deadly way to Summon a Rank 4. So close, Konami...and then you made the Rank 4s the easiest and most flexible monster Level for Xyz. And even the non-generic ones like Laggia, originally given more power because it was non-generic, became laughably easy to abuse.

 

BUT...even then, Rescue Rabbit could have been reasonably balanced. If not for that meddlesome TCG Exclusive known as Tour Guide. But Tour Guide's mere Level 3 was deceptive, for its effect was a mirror of Rescue Rabbit, in the sense that where Rabbit was an instant Rank 4...Guide was an instant Rank 3.

 

And what Rank 3 Xyz makes Guide so special? A little guy known as Leviair, the Sea Dragon, a deceptively evil 1800 ATK monster that can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower banished monster. Like...Rescue Rabbit?

 

And to add fuel, Tour Guide had a friend named Sangan, and while Sangan's effects on the Field would be negated by Tour Guide, and its effect was useless if used as Xyz Material...Sangan's effect doesn't care if it's negated on the Field. So Tour Guide thinned the Deck to Summon Sangan, and if Sangan left the Field...it could search a variety of monsters. Like...Rescue Rabbit?

 

So yeah, Rescue Rabbit tried so hard to be balanced, but the more Xyz that get released, the more flexible it can become. The Evilswarm arrived, eagerly displaying their Level 4 Normal Monster, which can become any of the Evilswarm Xyz. Ophion, Bahamut, Nightmare, whatever. Laggia was one example, then the TCG displayed the power of Dolkka, too.

 

Okay, ran out of dramatic fodder. Card tried to be balanced, totally wasn't.

Outside of Xyz summons, rabbit does have other uses,

Gem-Knights: for fusion materials

Gladiator Beasts: for easy Heraklinos

Normal Tuners: Self-Explanatory

And tribute summoning if you want.

Gem-Knights: 9/10 times you're supposed to be using it to make Lavalval Chain to further your plays, seeing as that's the deck that uses Chain best. They Xyz with Rabbit a LOT.

Gladiator Beasts: lolrabbitGB

Normal Tuners: Have fun synching 2 Tuners together

Tribute Summoning only works if you have Double Summon, which shows how shit any deck using Rabbit like that is.

Obviously, you use other monsters to synchro with.

it might even set up for synchroing twice, depending on what tuner you get.

 

You are horrid at this game.

 

OT: evilfusion pretty much summed it up. It's obvious that they actually tried here, but then they didn't bother to balance the Xyz it can summon.

 

Honestly, I think this was their breaking point. "Oh, we couldn't even balance a Rabbit, well... Let's stop giving a fuck."

Then we got Wind-Ups, Inzektors, and Hieratics, which evolved into Mermails, Prophecy, and E-Dragons.

Rabbit makes a lot of fun decks possible, but it also makes Dino Rabbit a deck and Verz a lot better.

Card tried to be balanced, totally wasn't.

AT FIRST is was balanced.
Then people remembered Dinosaurs were a card, and then Verz randomly joined the bandwagon and acquired a Normal monster.

the centerpiece of the format's currently most deadly and most underrated deck: vanilla beat. most decks, try as they might, cannot keep up with 4k damage from 2 gene-warped werewolf, leading into a tiger king. and vanilla beat has access to heat wave, one of the deadliest spells in the game. i expect them to make an incredible impact in the coming months. too many decks are reliant on effect monsters (e-dragons, fire fist, merlanteans) so once they lose them its easy wins. vanilla beat for tier 1.
