Vanity's Emptiness

Recommended Posts

Alright then, SDT was right one thing, it works well in Bujin. It is always fun to see people on Devpro just leave when I play this. They're all like, "Well, I certainly didn't expect that, I'm out." Good times. Anyway, discuss the potential for anti-meta this card has. Also, I'm thinking of testing this with Anti-Spell Fragrance.

One thing? Hopefully you'll come to terms with everything else I've been saying too :)

And hell, while this card works especially well in Bujin's, it's not a bad tech for many other decks either. It's just incredibly good at what it does, and is the closest thing to Royal Oppression we have, and often functions frighteningly similar, even better in some situations. Oppression had a minor issue that it couldn't be used during the damage step. Emptiness can be flipped before/during an attack to stop Gorz, Trag, Abysslinde, Fader, Recruiters and whatever else. Its best use is chaining to effect summons, or when your opponent is about to try and Synchro/Xyz. It's certainly a pro card.

Shouldn't oppression come back?

It's a decent tech in Macro Rabbit if you can get Laggia out early game then just beat down with big monsters.

The card should be good enough for what it does nowadays. Many Special Summons were actually conditions before, so you could only sort of guess and minus yourself.

Nowadays, Abyss, Incarnates, Junon, are effects that can be chained to, so you are a little more safe at the time of knowing your opponent is gonna try something. Especially when costs make it fun.

In theory at least.

Chaining this to Megalo seems really powerful, or chaining it to Junon then Mind Crushing. It seems a decent enough card anyway, Sleepy's right.

Why on earth would you use Mind Crush after chaining this to Junon? That would make you go -1 for nothing, because Mind Crush would go to the Graveyard and destroy Emptiness when you could have just chained Mind Crush to the revealing of Junon to stop her and keep your Emptiness down for future threats like Spellbook of Life, Reborn and preventing Judgment from bringing out Justice or Jowgen.

Since its SDT we're talking about, does anyone else play it at 3? It would get ultra cloggy imo.

Props for the smarmy bigotry against me you've got going on there, and I highly doubt that turning to "the others" for support on this one will be of any use because most of them wouldn't have much if any experience with using this card recently.

"Ultra cloggy"? What on earth are you smoking? That's wrong in every way possible here. Firstly, do you actually know anything about math? You only have a 5% chance of opening with at least 2 copies of a card you run in 3's, and in this case it doesn't even matter because you WANT to draw this card as much as possible. I LOVE to draw this card in 2's or 3's against most of the meta decks. Why wouldn't you want to maximize your chance of drawing a card which can singlehandedly shut down the best deck of the format and the deck that most people are going to be using on the competitive scene? Not to mention all of the other great uses it has and how it severely slows down the opponent pretty much no matter what deck you're up against.

But oh yeh, this is Zazubat we're talking about, can't say I expected much else. Hurr hurr.

There's really no need to get snarky. SDT may be an "extremist" in terms of his banlist views but there's nothing to suggest he doesn't know how to competently play the game.

OT: Obligatory Ninja comment. Wrecks with White Dragon Ninja on board. Sadly, I don't really see many ninja decks these days. Chaining this to Mermails is too funny. Unless they drop double Dragoons. The only thing this has to look out for is Blaster in Dragon Rulers.

I agree that SDT has ways of looking at things that a lot of people in this site don't share (a fair amount of the time, myself included), but I don't think I really disagree with him in this one. It is bad to generalize that you won't like X person's post because it is X person. Give credit where credit's due.

It needs to be said though, playing around it:

-Spellbooks didn't lose anything, and will just have to activate a Spell to pop this card and try to reveal again.

Other than that this'll do it's job quite well as an inferior Warning.

"to your Graveyard."

That's some funny text der and frankly its what makes this card good with restrictions especially with MST not being used as much.

Huh, I never noticed that my opponent's Graveyard was irrelevant. That explains why in DevPro it didn't die when I killed that Set Giant Rat....

I already thought it was good, but with that it is a bit better than I expected.

A bit? That makes it infinitely better than what you thought. If it died when a card went from a deck or field to ANY Graveyard, it would have been way worse and unplayable. The fact that it only destroys itself when something is sent to YOUR graveyard from field or deck means that it is extremely good, and while it's not the absolute best card against Prophecy, it's still very good at times. It stops Junon, Life, Reborn and Judgment from Specialing. They actually don't have ANY way to exploit the self-destruct effect (except Heavy, and not all builds even run it anymore), because Junon can't come out at all to pop something else, and Fate banishes, so it will have to select Emptiness itself if they want to get rid of it.

And an "inferior warning?" This card is BETTER than Warning against E-Dragons (and a lot of other decks, like Mermails). Warning does hardly anything to them whereas this card locks them out entirely until they draw one of their very few situational outs. I'd much rather draw this card than Warning now.

"a bit" is not that measurable of a statement so, I justify myself there.

My other comment was made before realizing it only cared about my Graveyard, so I also justify myself there.

I wouldn't call it "unplayable", just a good undermeta card. Though looking at how it really works, it's a pretty good counter for the current competitive enviroment, yes. Pretty much ideal, I'd say.

You can try to pretend we don't know what "a bit" means, but we do. It basically means along the lines of "not much, but still something", and that certainly doesn't accurately describe the difference between the effect you thought it had and the actual real one. So sorry, but not a good justification at all. Better to simply admit ones mistakes.

And back on the card, I'm genuinely thinking of main decking this in 3's in E-Drags, believe it or not. On DN when you get to 1300+ Rating, about 70% of decks are E-Drags, with some Prophecy and Verz making up most of the rest. In the E-Drags match-up, this card becomes Royal Oppression 2.0. Do a Swarm of Drago-SAC's, set this, wait until they discard a mini + another Dragon, flip this, gg. Hell, most E-Drags players can attest that Crimson Blader is often gg, let alone something which lasts more than a turn. It actually has beautiful synergy with Drago-SAC too, because tokens don't go to the grave, and the tokens prevent the SAC's from going to the grave as well. You can also use SAC's effect to pop a card while you control Emptiness without it dying too. You can still pop cards with Blaster and control your opponent with your hand traps as per usual as well. If you need to swarm again while it is face-up, you can easily destroy it voluntarily on demand by playing any of your spells like Sarc, Sword, SuJu, etc. I'm so trying this. I'll get to back to all at some point on the results.
