heraldry_lord Posted July 22, 2013 Report Share Posted July 22, 2013 Number 104: Masquerade [Rank 4/LIGHT/Spellcaster/Xyz/Effect/ATK 2700/DEF 1200] 3 Level 4 monsters During the Battle Phase, when your opponent activates a monster effect: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate that effect, and if you do, inflict 800 damage to your opponent. Once per turn: You can send the top card of your opponent's Deck to the Graveyard. So they got rid of the "Shining" part of its name, despite the fact that part was a major aspect of its identity, plot-wise at least. Anyway, the short story about this guy is that he says no to any monster effect your opponent tries to pull on you during the Battle Phase, including, but not limited to, all Flip Effects, Gorz, Tragoedia, Battle Fader, Scarecrow, and of course, Utopia, the guy this guy was designed to counter in the anime. Glads also can't run away on his watch as long as he has materials to detach. This makes him formidable in the Battle Phase, but he's still vulnerable to backrow, and he has fierce competition with other 3-material Rank 4's like Shock Master and Ouroboros. Still he's pretty decent, and if you can find space to run him, then feel free to do so. Furthermore, this guy is needed to access the full power of what is IMO one of the best Rank-Up targets we have currently: Number C104: Masquerade Magician - Umbralis Umbral Horror Masquerade. His last effect doesn't need a detach, but unless you want to do some minor disruption to your opponent's deck (and even then...) or your opponent has only like 1 card left in their deck, not sure why'd you'd use this. It's one of my favorite Rank 4s.C104 is only Umbralis because, while disguised, Vector played a 'Shining' deck; Number 104 being a Shining monster.Then, when the joke was over, he revealed his true self, as well as the true version of 104, and it became C104 Umbral Horror, an exactly opposite of it's former self.....Though, speaking of C104, are they going to keep the 'Umbral Horror' part of his name? Zazubat Posted July 22, 2013 Report Share Posted July 22, 2013 I like this card for the fact it insures Honest won't mess up your day, but really, that's about it. Besides for a few other hand traps, and very few destroy triggers in the meta (besides maybe in Mermails), this doesn't do too much, and because of that, making it doesn't seem worth it when you could just shut Down your opponent's field with Shock. Dubs are full of subtlety, right? Also, there are a lot of Shining cards already that aren't actually part of an archetype. It'll just screw over the TCG if Konami decides to make Shining an archetype, since the archetype support would have to support this card. But is Umbralis going to be called "Umbral Horror"? I know the TCG can't use "Umbral" due to some cards having the word in their name. I never really liked Number 104 until using it in Hunders, where it became one of my favorite cards. And C104 was a rare thing to bring out because my opponents tend to hate my Shining and will kill it half a dozen times before I draw Rank-Up Magic, but it's still awesome, and the random mill is just funny, ignoring plot hole. I just wasn't sure if Umbral Horror was the official archetype name for TCG. I don't mind the name for this that much. It just feels like it's missing something. That's true. The OCG name was "Masquerade Magician - Shining", being a spellcaster of light that wore a mask. C104 was Masquerade Magician - Umbral, It was also a spellcaster wearing a mask, but its true form was that of an evil being. BOTH monsters were performing a masquerade. Shining was symbolic of the plot twist and was upgraded to a monster that hid nothing about its true allegiance. The only reason Shining has the symbolism is because of Vector.
