Hokay, we finally have effect confirmed on this motha:

 

You can target 1 face-up Xyz Monster your opponent controls; equip this monster from your hand or your side of the field to that target. If the equipped monster has no Xyz Material while equipped by this effect, destroy it. While this card is equipped to an Xyz Monster, during each of your opponent's Standby Phases: Detach 1 Xyz Material from the equipped monster.

 

Got a good bit of a buff that. No longer has to waste your Normal Summon, and actually detaches enemy materials just for being equipped. Not saying it's great, but it's now way better than the anime version.

So they did end up making it attach from hand like I thought. Well, it's still not all that good, but you could at least argue it has some uses, such as baiting a Laggia (which is not really that relevant anymore) or destroying an Ophion during your opponent's standby... which would lead to them making another.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm assuming that if you chained that to this effect it might cause it to fall off? Because otherwise it would have no effect.

Equip spells don't fall off unless the monster leaves the field or becomes an incorrect target.

Well, Laggia actually can't respond to this at all if you attach from hand; then, if it gets to detach even once, Laggia loses its effect. Dolkka can respond though, and they likely will since they'd rather Detach to stop this thing than detach to do nothing. Still, not an expressly great use.

I did say upon activation. I don't remember if being unaffected at the time makes them destroy themselves, or if it just sits there uselessly.

Sit there uselessly. Besides, until Bakudan resolves, it's still a monster effect.
