Gimmick Shield (ANIME)

Equip only to a "Gimmick PuppetXyz Monster. Switch its ATK and DEF. Once per turn: You can inflict damage to your opponent equal to the number of Xyz Materials attached to the equipped monster x 300.

The only good targets for this card are 15 and its Chaos Number counterpart, basically. The burn effect is really meh, though.

Discuss.

Time to make a Rank 8 Gimmick with 1000 or less ATK and something like 4000+ DEF to make this even considerable.

Even then, it's not good at all. I'd much rather use Inverse Universe. Chainable bait, more permanent change, and it often ends up weakening the opponent as well.

It should at least have some sort of protection effect a la Fighting Spirit to be [s]worth it[/s] considerable.

Ignoring the anime deckbuilding skills issue, I really don't get why...bleh, back to anime deckbuilding skills. Why would IV consider this worth running?

Let's make it even worse: Before Yuma lent him Number 15 and 40 (and maybe 88), IV didn't HAVE any known Gimmick Puppet Xyz that weren't Numbers. Did he just happen to head off to Heartland City without updating his Deck at all? I ask the same question about III and V, too. None of them originally expected Yuma to hand over their old Numbers for use, yet they eagerly accept Duels against major opponents and easily bring out the Numbers they received from him mere seconds ago, with no sign of having different trump cards.
I must ask this plothole a lot, actually. Numbers are supposed to be cards from the Astral World, a completely different dimension. The entire Tron family seemed to have archetype-style Decks with Numbers belonging to that archetype, or closely related. III had 2 OOPArts Numbers (33 and 6), IV had 3 Gimmick Puppet Xyz Numbers (15, 40, 88), Tron had 2 Numbers that, while not directly part of his archetype, were obviously related (Number 8 being "Heraldic King" and Number 69 being a "Medallion/Heraldry" card). Their archetypes even seem to want to support those Numbers, as Gimmick Puppets are almost obsessively Rank 8 focused, and OOPArts have a range of Levels, but can easily go into Rank 5s.

Which came first? The archetype or the Numbers? Flashbacks indicated that OOPArts was an archetype when III was still a child, before any of them had ever gotten involved with the Astral and Barian World war. So then, were the Numbers designed for the archetype? If so, what was the archetype's original win condition?

I'm just forced to assume that, in the anime, characters literally create their own cards and they're legal for use. No company or anything manufactures or designs cards and archetypes.

Then again, Kaito's Deck is supposed built using science from a different dimension. Maybe that literally means "created", and all the cards don't actually exist anywhere else in the world. That would actually make sense, since Dr. Faker was involved in that creation, and Tron originally worked with Dr. Faker.
I might have too much time on my hands.

Is there any particular reason this card even needed to exist from a narrative standpoint? I get draining one card from his hand and doing 600 damage, but isn't that what Final Flame already does?

Can't explain IV or V though.
