Immortal Gate Guardian

Yeah, I've been feeling for awhile that the Gate Guardian needed to be brought back as an Xyz, so I've taken it upon myself to create the entire card (art, too).

Here's the descritption if it's hard to read on the card:

3 Level 7 monsters
If this face-up card would be destroyed, you can detach one Xyz material instead. If this card has no Xyz material, destroy this card. If this card has an Xyz material that was originally a Light, Wind, or Water attribute monster, apply the following effects:

  • Light: When this monster destroys an opponents monster in battle and send it to the graveyard, you can destroy one monster on the field.
  • Wind: Once per turn, if this face-up card is targeted for an attack, you can negate the attack.
  • Water: Once per turn, you can destroy one Spell or Trap on your opponents side of the field. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Change it to 2600 atk and around 2200 def because this card can be used by Dragon Rulers

Friggin' Dragon Rulers. We can't have nice Rank 7s because of their shenanigans.

Maybe edit this card's Summon restrictions to make it such that Dragon Rulers can't exploit it (I don't know how, since it'll be really awkward), or make its effects trigger only while the respective Gate Guardian parts (and only those parts) are its Xyz Materials.

OCG Stuff:

3 Level 7 monsters
If this face-up card would be destroyed: You can detach 1 Xyz Material instead. If this card has no Xyz Material: Destroy this card. If this card has an Xyz Material that was originally "Sanga of the Thunder", "Kazejin" or "Suijin", apply the following effects:

  • (Sanga): When this monster destroys an opponent's monster in battle and sends it to the graveyard: You can destroy 1 monster on the field.
  • (Kazejin): Once per turn, if this face-up card is targeted for an attack, you can negate the attack.
  • (Suijin): Once per turn, you can destroy 1 Spell / Trap card your opponent controls. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Either way, this is a nice take on redoing Gate Guardian [though as its Summoning requirements are right now, anything that spams Level 7 monsters can bring this out, such as the aforementioned Dragon Rulers]. How that can be edited so that DRs can't abuse it is a tricky part, though you could just put it as "3 Level 7 non-Dragon-Type monsters" or something (but that's just buffing this for the sake of not having Rulers abuse this card; since other cards now/in the future may find a way to get around it). I agree with the above poster in that its effects should only be applied if the respective parts of GG are there (much like how it was in the anime in its 3-part form).

That aside, maybe put a Special Summon restriction on this card (considering that this card's ATK/DEF is quite high even for a 3 Material Rank 7; even surpassing some things at Ranks 8/9). But overall, it's a good card (just that the meta nowadays forces us to design cards that don't allow DRs or anything else to spam them easily)

It's a pretty good card but the the first and second clause where it says "If this face-up card would be destroyed, you can detach one Xyz material instead. If this card has no Xyz material, destroy this card." is confusing. Wouldn't this card automatically get destroyed during the third attempt to destroy it, wasting the last material. Perhaps changing it to an effect like Utopia where it is destroyed when it is targeted by an attack?

Reviving this card without attaching Xyz Materials to it will be utterly pointless since it dies again, but if it doesn't die immediately without Materials it will be a ridiculously strong vanilla.

...Well, not like that stopped any other Xyz Monster. Alright, maybe Utopia's self-destruction effect could be acceptable.

Suggestions.

Okay, I think the best way to stop the Dragon Rulers from abusing this card would be this:

1 Level 7 LIGHT monster + 1 Level 7 WIND monster + 1 Level 7 WATER monster.

As far as I know, there is no light dragon ruler, so it would restrict them from ever abusing this card too much. Having to use the specific Gate Guadian pieces would be too annoying to try to pull off. I'd want people to try playing this. haha

The non-material, destruction effect? Good point. How about it can't attack and if it's targeted for an effect, it's destroyed. Or, possibly, it's destroyed during the end phase?

I think I'd like to alter the second effect, too. Not just stopping an attack on itself, but an attack to anywhere?

If you make the materials like that, you might as well make this a Fusion Monster. (At the moment, no Xyz Monster lists 3 specific Attributes/Types; only 1 specific Type/Attribute/Archetype, etc.)

For the 2nd part you mentioned, that could work (give it a sort of Utopia clause); just have it kill itself during End Phase if no more Xyz materials. If you prohibit it from attacking w/out materials, you still have a +3000 ATk/DEF monster that can wall for LP.

Final thing, to keep it close to the anime effects; that could work. (Although only works against your monsters)

Perhaps turn the three pieces into a "jin" archetype of only those 3, and have his materials require 3 Level 7 "jin" monsters with different names?

Derp Sanga.

Can be only monster on the field? Then it would be worthless for edrags to run him, but a deck dedicated to run this guy could efficiently do so.

About the type-specific materials, who's to say he can't? There aren't many type-specific fusions in the game either, and the ones that are came about fairly late. I don't feel like I'm breaking any rules, really..

I thought about the end-phase thing, but I wanted this drawback to make some sense to the card. I figured the removal of all xyz material destroying him made the most sense from a literal point, but maybe I could make him have the Utopia attack targeting drawback, too, along with a Spirit Reaper drawback. Yeah, without any Xyx material, he's just a frail shell. That works, too.

I think I'm keeping it close to the anime effect. I definitely remember Kazejin(wind) stopping attacks. Suijin(water) washed away stuff from the labyrinth against Yugi and Joey. I'm also pretty sure he destroyed the traps they had set, too. And Sanga, I just remember being the tough one. Monster destruction seems to suit him. Maybe it would behoove me to watch those episodes again.
