That aside, though, the fact you can't Normal Summon is because you can't really have any breaks in a boss rush, it's just one after another. This is Yu-Gi-Oh, not all the same rules apply. That's true, but it's the only one that does, and it's almost worthless without using Boss Rush. So it both aids and conflicts with the theme. All of the other BES monsters want to be Normal Summoned, so they get cool counters to do cool stuff with or survive battle. Boss Rush makes them one-strike wonders, but continues SSing them from the Deck. MK-II does the opposite. Being Normal Summoned makes it a one-strike wonder, but using Boss Rush makes it awesome.
