Number 50 vs. Diamond Dire Wolf

Recommended Posts

Now that the new tins have been announced, I'm going through which one I should get. (In both tins there is nothing that I'd use other then these two cards to be honest)

So which one would you rather use?
Number 50: Blackship of Corn or Diamond Dire Wolf?

Also I don't know if this is the right area for this, but eh. If its not, It'll get moved and then I'll know =P

Well I'm playing Crystal Beasts where Diamond Dire has plenty of other targets (especially ones I'd be fine with destroying)

To me I'm look at this:
Diamond Dire Wolf has plenty of options in my deck to pop a lot.
No. 50 on the other hand can wipe out small monsters and hit damage.

Trust me No.101 will be more then insanely expensive. (I won't be surprised if people start picking up RUM's to try to make C101 too)

Diamond Dire Wolf has generally been better than Number 50 for me in a plethora of situations, especially when dealing with S/Ts that I couldn't deal with because I don't have any other outs in the current situation.  In terms of monster removal, 50 is better though.

Yea, that is the thing, for me I can run both (and Dire Wolf more effectively then most other comparable decks as I have other monsters besides himself to pop like Eagles that are only clogging my hand or just dead monsters.) I'm just not sure how well I can use both.

One thing is that No. 50 is useless against Dragons usually as my Opponent will probably end up with leaving a Dragon Ruler on the field or a High level Synchro and maybe a Card Trooper which means I can pop that w/o him drawing. (But that's not much of a really big deal to me...)

No. 50 shines well against Lightsworn decks and more balanced decks. (I seriously don't think Dragon Rulers aren't balanced because you can get your top monsters (the Rulers, a Rank 7 or a High leveled Synchro) out almost every turn. That's not really a deck that's fair except for decks that are made for those matchups.)

Diamond Dire works against both fairly well but also does get run over a bit quickly.

Dragon rulers are not balanced, they're completely overpowered, since you can banish them to summon another dragon ruler and then chain "return form the different dimension" for maximum rustling

also, since big eye/No. 74/Dracossack are rank 7, things can get only worse

Skip buying both tins and buy both from the secondary market. They're going for like $4 total. Plus, it never hurts to own both, even if you're not running both. Options are nice.

Thing about Corn and Dire is the fact each one does a similar job, but from a different perspective. Corn is just more of a splahsable option because it's easier to play, where as Dire requires you to actually play it efficiently, but at the same time you get more options for what you can hit.

unless you play Fire Kings-

That's what I did. Tin reprints are much, much cheaper online than from the tins, unless you really want the packs. Though the Tempest tin might be worthwhile since it has No.50, Barian's Force, Thunder Sea Horse, and Gear Gigant X, all superb reprint choices, plus Tempest.

I'm less impressed with the Redox tin with Spellbook of the Master, Diamond Dire, and No.88, although those are also good reprint choices, they have less playability synergy with each other.

I tend to buy the tins because I also get the packs (which last few times I got some good trade fodder out of) but also because I was going to do that with Cowboy, except it was impossible to find.

And yes, I'm going to get both but right now I want to get 1 Tin and I'll get the other via a trade. Also like I said, Diamond Dire Wolf has synergy in my Deck as I run Crystal Beasts and he'll have plenty of other targets to hit too.

Also I said the Rulers aren't balanced.

The simplest way to put it is like this:

Corn is inherently more powerful. It doesn't kill itself for its usage in most decks, it burns, it sends so it laughs at many cards that want to be blown up, and it can really push games forward.

Direwolf is inherently more flexible. It has a much larger range of targets for its effect, has added bonuses if you play Beasts/Winged Beasts/Beast Warriors,

The former is better as a generic option whereas the latter's better in decks that either have lots of targets for it or can spit out 2 Level 4s like nothing. Hunders, Heraldics, Fire Kings, and especially Infernity are examples of one or both of these kinds of decks.

I wouldn't run Corn in something that spams out the ass unless I absolutely had space. In something like Infernity, Heraldic, or Hunder, you generally will not, as there are better options to run. Infernity runs 2-3 of each Direwolf and Lavalval Chain, Heraldics want many multiples in the extra, and Hunders havee access to the powerful LIGHT-specific Rank 4s. So more often than not, there's barely enough room to fit every relevant card you need, much less a card like Corn.

Unless corn's good in that format for sure. Then make room for corn.

As for purchasing, if you're in Europe, get Corn, cause Corn's pricier there.
