I can cook instant noodles. If I could live off of only that, by all means I would.

You sound like all of my college friends right now.

I have an array of things I can cook well, and things that just look fine to eat too. A thing someone taught me was: Learn to cook at least one meal, and learn to cook it well. This way you always have something that can be used to impress people and you have yourself a romantic dinner that was made personally.

No I mean you see a lot of stereotypes against male chefs

I mean other than the professionals.

At least I used to. Maybe it's stopped happening so much as of late. I'm uninformed about recent changes in public opinion *shot*

Typically in the relationship I used to hear that the woman was expected to cook if anyone did and that it was weird for the male to.

At least that's how I took it based on other people.

I spent some time on the Crunchroll forum and found 2 threads that had to do with men cooking: 1 with gender roles in the family and the other with do girls like men cooking or is it normal? Which ever one. On my time there, I discovered that a lot of girls really, really like it when men cook and treated it as a special, beautiful thing; probably due to the women in the kitchen stereotype or men don't really cook a lot in their countries, it's an international forum so it also explains the horrid spelling and grammar.

That had inspired me again to take up cooking but not maybe from my mother due to her's, and my sister's, attitude that women should only cook, after I told them I had a liking towards Spanish women and not that much towards Haitian ones. It had me at a shock that they had this old way of thinking, but not that shocked with their other behaviors. Months later I asked them if they could teach me to cook some pork recipe for my french class' international food party but they declined and were annoyed the teacher would ask me to do such a thing then decided to do it themselves.

From that day forth I set to learn form my friends, the internet, and the occasional food network shows to learn how to cook, maybe learn from my mom by watching her do it since I like what she makes but my sister does it better, but because of college, I'll have to try it sometime else. I do make a mean bowl of cereal and a sandwich though. :D

Oh I know women do appreciate it

But it's still "rare" and as such can be seen as "weird" or so to say.

I'm a guy and hell I appreciate a male chef

Alright, wish more people knew or don't think it's shocking. Now, if they can only wear more of these:

Having lived alone seemingly forever now, I've become a pretty decent cook I'd like to think. I do omelettes for breakfast mostly and do a lot of chillis, spag bols, and similar things from mostly the same recipe overall, and some salady things.

Lasagne was my speciality, but I haven't done it in a while. Honey and mustard chicken is another favourite.

Toad-in-the-Hole, or indeed just Yorkshire pudding, remains my nemesis.

The only cooking expertise within me is being able to turn on a stove, boil a pot of mediocre American-brand ramen, put whatever crap is around the kitchen....there's my breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Though I've been invested in how professional chefs cook so by the time I'm alone at college I'd pick up some cooking skills in order to avoid vending machine candy for dinner situations.

If you know how to work a stove then you cook a lot of things.  You just need to do it.

Example:

Take two slices of bread, spread mustard on the inside of both.  Place turkey, swiss cheese, and a slice of avocado between them.  Put a pan on the stove, turn on the stove.  Put butter on sandwich and place sandwhich in pan.  Put butter on remaining side and flip whenever.

Boom, delicious.

But really, there's a ton of easy things to cook where all you have to do is throw **** it in a pan.

Cooking....

Let it be known that I am a prime example of unjustified sloth.

To describe my position with cooking, I am often way too lazy to do any sort of cooking, unfortunately, and I'm also as picky as a child, yet have very odd tastes, according to some people.

When I do cook, however, I consistently receive compliments and am told how I do so very well, despite never practicing or putting any effort. The main problem is that I often combine two ingredients that are very specific to my taste, so I mostly cook for myself alone. Of course, I can cook most things you ask me to, too, but I just never have the motivation.

In terms of relationships and stuff...
Well, if I live with anybody in my future, I would like to try making cooking an activity. Of course, I have no belief in gender roles, but I like doing things with very specific people, and attributing cooking as a mandatory responsibility makes it much less joyous an occasion than an activity to be done together, regardless of skill level.

I'm off to Uni in September so I need to learn how to cook at some point. I can do pasta or rice in sauce. I can also fry things, but I can't live on bacon and egg for 4 years...

Off topic slightly; What uni are you going to?

I'm planing on living off bacon and instant noodles while I'm in Uni, even though I'm an alright cook :')

I like cooking and baking. I cook every now and then but I usually cook for special occasions. My family tends to do a bunch of the cooking because they get the ingredients cheap. We usually cook seafood with a bunch of spice and have a bunch of vegetables to use as well.

I count baking and cooking as too different things in my mind but I guess they are pretty much the same thing.

I really want to learn how to bake.

I want to be able to cook noodles (like stir fry ramen kind or things like that...hell I just really like noodles), potatoes, and chickens and that's all I'll need/want. xD

But yeah baking is more up my alley, I'd think.

Baking is more like science, you need the measurements to be (almost) exact, because it all goes together. Every ingredient is important and necessary.

Cooking is more like art, you have the recipe, but you can add or change it mostly if you need to be. a lot more experimentation can be done with cooking.

As for myself, i am a "cook" at my job(work at nursing home). I make breakfast(mostly scrambled eggs, with hot ceral and such), as well as salads, and other stuff, but I work directly with actual cooks all day long.Ive picked up a lot of tips and tricks to cooking, such as prepping as much as possible before hand, learn how to multi task, etc etc. i cook mostly for myself and am kinda decent at it.

Below is a picture of what my friends call "the ball o' beef" as it is a cheese filled ball of beef, wrapped in bacon covered in jack danials BBQ sauce, and that ball is then covered with cheese, another layer of beef surronds it, and then is again wrapped in bacon and covered in JD BBQ sauce, and then cooked the appropriate time.

I like this analogy and I agree.  This is why I like cooking more than baking.

Dont be afraid to try to cook. the worst that happens is you make some untasty food(unless you like burn down your house, dont set it and forget it folks).

A lot of online sites have reciepes you can try out, and are decent stepping stones. Cook books have some easy reciepes too, but can be expensive.

Just be careful, use appropriate pot holders and make sure you watch what you are doing.

Cleaning as you go is important as it saves time after cooking. By this i mean, if you are chopping some veggies after you are done chopping, put the discarded stuff in the trash and wipe your counter. Dont try to clean pots/pans in the midst of cooking.

As far as knives go, make sure they are sharp as its safer. They cut better and dont force you to use a lot of motion which decreases the risk of cutting yourself.Dull knives require more motion and can still cut you. If you have a cutting glove, make sure to wear it on the opposite hand that your knife is in. There are a ton of different knives, make sure you use the right one for the job.

Cleaning is very important for cooking. You could make yourself or someone else sick easily. I recommend using different cutting boards for meats and vegetables; and to also wash down those washing boards with some hot bleach water.

Scrambled Eggs, Grilled Cheese Sandwhiches, Hamburgers, Popcorn.

Sometimes I can get an omelette without messing everything up.

Aside from those four, of which I am the master of, I can usually cook something semi-decent if I put my heart into it. Need practice though.
