Rank 5

DARK

Fish/Effect

2 Level 5 monsters

Effect: Your opponent cannot target monsters for attacks, except this one. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster you control; it can make a second attack during each Battle Phase this turn.

So, Shark Fortress. I never really liked this card, always feeling it was outclassed by a bunch of other Rank 5 monsters, and will probably only continue to be outclassed. However, it's still a pretty nice option if you have room for it, and Decks capable of churning out Rank 5s might use it.

Of course, what REALLY got me to love this card was a certain event during one of the most recent Numbers tournaments.
Having been given by luck, Numbers 46 and 62 (Dragluon and Prime Photon Dragon), I chose to run a Galaxy Deck, to the surprise of...absolutely no one, I'm sure.

I confess to forgetting who my opponent was, only that they had a Dark World deck and Number 22. I lost game 1, but won game 2, and it came down to the third game. Game 2 had already shown to me that he had sided cards in to hurt my Deck, so my goal was to win as quickly as possible.

My opening hand, to my horror, contained RUM - The Seventh One. Which meant I had a dead card in hand, plus my ace in the hole was useless. Not a good start.

Very early on, he used Prohibition, declaring my Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, which meant my Deck's ace was also useless. He also got his set-up very quickly, leaving me all but flailing to stay alive.

I managed to stall a little bit, and had a Galaxy Soldier out. I had used the effect of Galaxy Wizard to grab Galaxy Zero. In my hand was Galaxy Expedition and Galaxy Zero, with 2 set cards.

My opponent brought out two Grapha, and Overlaid for Divine Dragon Knight Felgrand. He attacked my Soldier, but I flip Mirror Force. He chains Felgrand's effect, but I chain my second Mirror Force, destroying it. He uses a second copy of Prohibition, declaring the Galaxy Zero he knows is in my hand. He had 2 set cards, 2 Prohibition, and his Field Spell, and sits at 8000 LP.

I draw, obtaining Galaxy Knight. I play my Galaxy Expedition and Special Summon another Galaxy Soldier. However, he flips Light Imprisoning Mirror to its effect, negating it. At this point, I realize how hopeless the Duel is. He had neutralized my LIGHT monster effects, had my best options Prohibited, and his Graphas in the Grave with his Field Spell out, ready to give him more advantage.

I peer into my Extra Deck, hoping vainly to be able to stall a little longer and maybe take out enough of his LP to give me a shot. Alas, most of my Extra Deck monsters are LIGHT, without the ATK to beat a Grapha or worse next turn.

Then I see this card. Shark Fortress, a Rank 5 I had put into the Extra Deck since I had a slot open due to not being able to use No.61. A plan forms quickly. He still has a Set card, but if it's a bluff or a useless Trap...I could win the Duel right now.

I Normal Summon my Galaxy Knight as I have a Galaxy monster on the Field. Due to my opponent's Light-Imprisoning Mirror, Galaxy Knight's effect is negated, so its ATK remains at 2800. Then, I Overlay my 2 Galaxy Soldiers for Shark Fortress.

Since Shark Fortress is DARK, its effect can be used. I detach 1 to allow Galaxy Knight to attack twice this turn. I attack directly with my Galaxy Knight. (Opp LP: 5200). I attack again! (Opp LP: 2400). Shark Fortress attacks directly for exactly game. (Opp LP: 0)
Needless to say, I'm quite fond of it now.

The fact it can target other monsters than itself is why its always going to be a viable option. Artifacts can make super use of this after a combo. They can go Double 61---> Gaia, or if the field is clear Number 19--> FA Zero Lancer and Shark Fortress.

Both options put 10k damage on the board. Its definitely a card looking into, but unless you're going for game, you'll opt for something else.

I was that opponent..., man, you pulled a good one on me back then.

On the card, it's absolutely amazing. It makes Chronoartifacts able to OTK when they usually shouldn't.

It was probably my most epic comeback ever. It was even more ironic because your own side card is what allowed me to win.

Aside from the obvious OTKing potential, I'v used this in Artfacts as a sudo monster destruction effect for those times when I don't want to return a card to my opponents hand and when I can't use Volca effectively.

It's a nice card to run 1 of if you can consistently make Rank 5s.

It's neat in Fortune Ladies if you can reliably make it (Not too hard with Water after a turn, Trag, and 3 Darks). Attacking twice with dark is crazy.

attacking twice with anything is crazy.

it's why the ben OTK was so powerful, every boost it got gives it another attack. that can get scary fast
