Soak up the Tsunami / Continuous Spell Card

Recommended Posts

Quick card I made, nothing too special, just a standard spell card. Liked the artwork and the idea of it, it could really come in use in certain situations.

Effect: "Decrease your Life Points by 3000 to activate this card. Every time a monster is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, increase your Life Points by 500 while this card remains active. When this card is destroyed by a Spell Card's effect, destroy all monsters on the field."

If you're going to pay 3000 LP to do something, it'd better be gamebreaking or worth the effort. For example, stalling a majority of monsters (Wall of Revealing Light) or bringing back a number of monsters from your Graveyard (Soul Charge).

Here, your opponent would just pop this card with a monster effect and you've effectively handed yourself over on a silver platter. Perhaps if the nuke triggered off any form of destruction or the LP regeneration was higher, it might be marginally better.

I dunno, 3000 is a big cost to pay but the ability to destroy ALL monsters on the field actually makes it worth it. I would suggest that any form of destruction would trigger it as Gad mentioned because Traps or Monster Effects would nullify its Nuke effect. As for Life Gain, 600 is more sufficiant as it would take 5 monsters being destroyed to get your LP back and that makes all the difference. Other then that I see nothing wrong with your card. Set this nuke off using something like your own MST could be devestating for your opponent as its an effect rather then the Spell Card Dark Hole.

1st of all i start with a grammar fix: "Activate by paying 3000 Life Points. Each time a monster is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, gain 500 Life Points." Until here ok but the rest of the effect makes no sense 1st because i think your opponent will not try to destroy this card (except if you control monsters and he/she does not) and 2nd why to spend ur MST on this card when Dark Hole is still playable. Btw otherwise you would increase your chances to destroy this card by removing the Spell restriction and make it more vulnerable to be destroyed. Something like this <<If this card in its owner's possession is destroyed by a card effect: Destroy all monsters on the field.>>.

The activation cost for this card seems a bit high, considering it does not do anything all that useful after being activated; regain Life Points each time a monster is sent to the Graveyard. "Macro Cosmos" and its allies make this effect pretty much useless. So I would not run it for that effect, and therefore I would not activate it. Its secondary effect however is the sole reason why (most people) would run this card.

The way it is worded now, its destruction effect activates regardless of how it is destroyed (face-up, Set, from the hand or even in your Deck), as long as a Spell Card is responsible for its destruction. This means that I can set the card and then destroy it, essentially running more copies of "Dark Hole". Combined with "Mystical Space Typhoon" this card basically becomes some sort of Trap version of "Dark Hole". It however does have its downsides: you loose at least 2 cards (this card and the one to destroy it), your opponent can trigger this card's destruction effect at an inconvenient moment (you are the only one to control monsters for example).

"Artifact" decks would most likely run this card, as those decks tend to run a lot of (Quick-play) Spell Cards which can destroy your own "Spell" cards ("Mystical Space Typhoon", "Artifact Ignition" and "Double Cyclone"). If your opponent has summoned a lot of monsters and entered his Battle Phase, you can destroy this card to destroy all your opponent monsters. This is best done before you destroy your wannabe Spell Cards ("Artifact" monsters).

I however do get the feeling you did not intend on this card being used this way. This is how I think you actually meant to word the effect: "Activate by paying 3000 Life Points. Each time a monster is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, gain 500 Life Points. When this face-up card is destroyed by the effect of a Spell Card, destroy all monsters on the field.". The card also gets a bit more balanced when using this effect; in some cases your opponent can use this card against you more easily and you have a point in paying quite a big cost.

I hope my suggestion/vision is of some use to you.

Thanks. As I was going to say, this card could be devastating if used in conjunction with something like Dark Hole and your opponent had 3/4 monsters on the field at the time. I'll amend this card so that you gain 600 life points every time a card is sent to the graveyard. I could prove to be very effective in the right situation. Probably a card you'd play closer to the start of a duel.

Tsunami and a few other themes are a taboo when it comes to Konami (and Japan).

The lore Yamatchi suggests is quite good, you can use it with cards like "Double Cyclone" or evade its drawback with "Emergency Provisions" if you turn the game to your favor and wanna keep your monsters safe.

Why not make it continious trap? This way you can make it even more playable without having your strategy in plain sight... Have it ready if your opponent is planning to destroy your monsters during their turn, or use it during your battle phase when you will certainly destroy a few of theirs and regain the cost payed.
