I had a weird thought

You know how society and its social conventions and culture changes over time?

Like how whites were master race until people learned not to discriminate based on someone's skin color, women gaining equality to men, the current process of gays fighting for marriage rights, etc?

Well, society's bound to move on to new social issues as time goes on, right?

I think some time far off in the future, people will be debating over social equality and/or better treatment for incestuous relationships and robots (if they become advanced enough).

What social controversies do you think will become prominent in the future?

The incestuous relationships thing will (hopefully) never actually happen, because there are known genetic problems that any offspring is likely to suffer and it is just cruel to put a child through that. Homosexual relationships are different because, contrary to popular belief, they are perfectly natural. Humans are not the only species that practice homosexuality.

Robots is already being written about.

I don't think the question will be whether it's ethical to treat free-thinking machines as human, but whether it's ethical to even make free-thinking machines.

Good point.

I have this feeling they'll end up being made at some point, just this nagging feeling.

I can totally understand that, though what arguments are there if the couple doesn't want kids?

The only thing I can think of is it being truly disgusting. The only time I can picture humanity ever being incestuous is when it's about to die out.

How about Aliens XD They're bound to show up sooner or later.

Realistically, I think the next big controversy is probably just gonna be another war.

Incest was often used to preserve royal bloodlines in various past cultures, including European ones.

As for robots, there is so much sci-fi out there already on this issue.

What's unethical about making free-thinking machines?

And your opinion on incest should affect others' freedom to love?

Modern science will probably eventually be able to solve defects. I did a quick search and the answers varied, but most sources argued that the chances of serious defects were quite low.

Only after generations of repeating the same tradition.

Not necessarily on the generations part, since the increased chance of defect from the first incestuous generation is significant enough.

Not gonna say I'm opposing incestuous relationship, but this factor really should be considered.

Speaking of genes, the extent of genetic modification on humans, and similar things. Should people stop at one point or should they keep going with it, and other implications of it.
