Fusion X. Denver
You know how society and its social conventions and culture changes over time? Like how whites were master race until people learned not to discriminate based on someone's skin color, women gaining equality to men, the current process of gays fighting for marriage rights, etc? Well, society's bound to move on to new social issues as time goes on, right? I think some time far off in the future, people will be debating over social equality and/or better treatment for incestuous relationships and robots (if they become advanced enough). What social controversies do you think will become prominent in the future?
Agro
Robots is already being written about. I don't think the question will be whether it's ethical to treat free-thinking machines as human, but whether it's ethical to even make free-thinking machines. JadenxAtemYAOI
Gay /=/ Transgender so I would say the Armed Forces Transgender Ban is next. The next one would be fat people and fat rights because several states have been pressing the fat tax.
Zauls
The incestuous relationships thing will (hopefully) never actually happen, because there are known genetic problems that any offspring is likely to suffer and it is just cruel to put a child through that. Homosexual relationships are different because, contrary to popular belief, they are perfectly natural. Humans are not the only species that practice homosexuality. I have this feeling they'll end up being made at some point, just this nagging feeling. I can totally understand that, though what arguments are there if the couple doesn't want kids?
Ezmoe
Good point. I have this feeling they'll end up being made at some point, just this nagging feeling. I can totally understand that, though what arguments are there if the couple doesn't want kids? The only thing I can think of is it being truly disgusting. The only time I can picture humanity ever being incestuous is when it's about to die out. How about Aliens XD They're bound to show up sooner or later. Realistically, I think the next big controversy is probably just gonna be another war.
Aix
The only time I can picture humanity ever being incestuous is when it's about to die out.Incest was often used to preserve royal bloodlines in various past cultures, including European ones.As for robots, there is so much sci-fi out there already on this issue.I don't think the question will be whether it's ethical to treat free-thinking machines as human, but whether it's ethical to even make free-thinking machines. What's unethical about making free-thinking machines? The only thing I can think of is it being truly disgusting. And your opinion on incest should affect others' freedom to love? The incestuous relationships thing will (hopefully) never actually happen, because there are known genetic problems that any offspring is likely to suffer and it is just cruel to put a child through that.Modern science will probably eventually be able to solve defects. I did a quick search and the answers varied, but most sources argued that the chances of serious defects were quite low.
Agro
What's unethical about making free-thinking machines? Sorry. Whether or not it's ethical to NOT make them.
Simping For Hina
A lot of bigger species support incestuous sexual reproduction due to the fact that they increase the chance of growth. Mostly insects and vermin do this, though.
Maeriberii Haan
Incest was often used to preserve royal bloodlines in various past cultures, including European ones. Which ends up really badly, just saying.
Simping For Hina
Which ends up really badly, just saying. Only after generations of repeating the same tradition.
Maeriberii Haan
Only after generations of repeating the same tradition. Not necessarily on the generations part, since the increased chance of defect from the first incestuous generation is significant enough. Not gonna say I'm opposing incestuous relationship, but this factor really should be considered. Speaking of genes, the extent of genetic modification on humans, and similar things. Should people stop at one point or should they keep going with it, and other implications of it.
Goose
The ban on incest is a form of eugenics and I bet that if we tried to put it in place now there would be incredible backlash.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
By the fact that people here are focusing on incestuous relationships, I think that is proof that down the line that will be a debate that will become common. I don't know all the facts of the genetic issues, but I thought it occurred mostly with multiple cases of "inbreeding".
Agro
Incest is a debate for us because we watch anime. And anime, for one reason or another, hints at a s*** ton of incest.
Simping For Hina
Incest is a debate for us because we watch anime. And anime, for one reason or another, hints at a s*** ton of incest. That is because of fanservice.
Agro
And that's obvious because as we all know, all fans of anime want to have sexual relations with their siblings.
Simping For Hina
Exactly. This is why I don't watch anime.
JadenxAtemYAOI
I guess I will be the person that believes incest is an okay thing. If the birth defects are proven to be low then I say go for it. Just make sure it's mutual consent and treated like every other relationship. On the subject of robots. Technically women and gay men are already having intercourse with them.
Tentacruel
I won't say that I think incest is "okay," but in terms of legality, reproduction and marriage/relationships in general are two separate issues.
