玄魔の王
Round two. Yeah, I think this guy was one of the first hints of how important Once-Per-Turn clauses are in this game. So if I went: You can Tribute 1 monster; Special Summon 1 "Frog" monster from your Deck, except "Frog the Jam". You can only use this effect of "Substitoad" once per turn. "Frog" monsters, except "Frog the Jam", cannot be destroyed by battle. does this make the card no longer ban-worthy?
Slinky
Honestly, it doesn't really matter now. It's been out power creeped to oblivion, to the point where frogs just don't matter anymore, even if this were @3 with no changes made to it
Pchi
Why don't they simply reprint Frog the Jam with a new name so they no longer have to worry about that annoying clause in new releases and reprints of Frog monsters?

The funniest bit is it actually needs to be changed to a "Toad" monster, since its Japanese name contains "カエル", just like Substitoad etc.

"Toad Jam".
Neutrality Man
Toad Slime actually. This is a primary reason I hate name changes. It makes effects unnecessarily longer. Just look at Arsenal Summoner for an example.

Just look at Arsenal Summoner for an example. To be fair, that was Konami springing Archetypes on them at the last minute. UDE probably couldn't have guessed Summoned Skull and Axe of Despair were meant as part of one set, for example. But yes, Toad Slime is its Japanese name. Toad the Jam is acceptabe though, since Jam is often subbed in for Slime.

I don't exactly like the idea of being able to spit out 3 Daigusto Phoenix + w/e for getting this + another monster on board. Ronintoadin is a silly fucking card. goodfusion
They should simply make a card like this: Revenge of the Unnecessary Exile Quick-Play Spell Effect: Tribute 1 "Frog the Jam": banish all "Frog" monsters from both players side of the Field, hand, Deck and Graveyard, except "Frog the Jam". Wouldn't that make Ronintoadin the problem and not Substitoad? Mind Master at least had the tuner status and that exodia ftk bullshit so I can understand that, but Substitoad doesn't really have anything except super deck thinning, unless there is something I'm missing? ihop
With an OPT clause this thing is rubbish and irrelevant, but after Mass Driver was banned it was more or less irrelevant anyway unless if you wanted to dedicate most of your deck to frogs just to make Daigusto Phoenixes. Also, Ronintoadin is a totally balanced card, this thing was definitely the problem in FrogTK.

Bringing this back as-is is not a healthy move, though likely not a game ending one.
vla1ne
this(unedited) + swap frog and substitoad pretty much can throw every frog card in your deck to the grave on turn 1. that alone is enough to solid wall/ drop obelisk tributes fodder for the rest of the game when combined with the proper spells and traps of course. if that isn't enough to keep him on the list(unerrata'd) then this game is pretty much too busted to recover. Neutrality Man
Or we could just drop the Summon effect entirely and let this keep the protection effect. Tradetoad's version is better by way of the OPT clause.

Airride
Or we could just drop the Summon effect entirely and let this keep the protection effect. Tradetoad's version is better by way of the OPT clause. Of course, they both also serve different purposes. Trade Lets you get stuff back from grave, while this lets you Search stuff out. And, honestly, this could come back if it just had a flat "OPT", rather than a hard one, as there's very few ways, if any, to recycle this indefinitely, as it's not actually a Frog itself. Mugendramon
It should actually be renamed Toad with Jam.

vla1ne
Isn't that a French delicacy? would anybody actually eat something that looked like that? but errata or not, i want this card back so much. my frogs miss him dearly. and if konami got their heads straight, they'd start fixing more cards like this one (also known as cards that badly need some form of OPT clause)
