STRIDE THE ...Xyz? [Toyo and Co. Makes Support For DP Archetypes]

Recommended Posts

BASICALLY

Nai had the brilliant idea of porting Cardfight Vanguard's Stride!! mechanic to YGO, in the form of big scary Xyzs. I decided to take that a step further. As for now, I've only made Strides for Miko, Assault Dragon and Darklords, but feel free to add more if you want!

[spoiler=What is Stride?]

A mechanic from CFV I shamelessly ripped off

Nah, not really. Stride is honestly just a keyword introduced for these cards, a shorthand for the effect of "When your opponent controls a monster with 2500 or more ATK: You can discard monsters whose total levels equal 8; Special Summon this card from your Extra Deck using a [Specified Material] as the Xyz Materials. Cards and effects cannot be activated in response to this card's summon. This face-up card cannot attack directly."

Using the Stride!! Keyword, that effect is now shortened to STRIDE: [Specified Material]

Stride Summoning is really just a glorified specific Special Summon method, it didn't even to be a whole new mechanic. I just included the keyword so that I don't have to write the long-ass summoning effect they have.

3 Level 10 Dinosaur-type monsters
STRIDE: 2 level 6 or higher "Assault Dragon" monsters
When this card declares an attack, excavate the top 3 cards of your deck. For each “Assault Dragon” cards revealed, destroy 1 card on the field and add the excavated to your hand, otherwise send it to the graveyard. During the End Phase, return this card to the Extra Deck, then return this card’s Xyz Material back to the field.

3 Level 10 Spellcaster-type monsters
STRIDE: 2 Rank 4 "Miko" monsters
When this card declares an attack: Draw and reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. For each "Miko" monster drawn, Special Summon 1 "Miko" monster from your deck with the same name in face-up defense position. During the End Phase, return this card to the Extra Deck, then return this card's Xyz Materials back to the field.

3 Level 10 DARK Fairy-type monsters
STRIDE: 1 Rank 8 DARK Fairy-type monster
When this card declares an attack: Banish any number of DARK Fairy-type monsters from your graveyard; Activate 1 of the following effects: • Negate the effects of cards on the field, equal to the number of monsters banished. • Special Summon DARK Fairy-type monsters from your graveyard, equal to the number of monsters banished. Return this face-up card to the Extra Deck at the End Phase, and return its Xyz Materials to the field.

It doesn't need to be a new type of card :P
Why would it even need to be that?

well, its pretty hard to pull out i guess, tho the conditions are pretty hard to fulfill, would be fine if it just "If your Opponent control # monsters on the field"

even more, XYZ monster attached to the monsters would lost their materials

i can understand why you choose XYZ monsters, but

Possible variations:

Red bordered card design.

Placed in Main Deck possibility, and allows Stride Summon to also occur from the hand? Cannot be Summoned, except by Stride Summon. Picking a monster you control, and discarding monsters whose Levels equal the Stride Grade or greater (Similar to Rank, not treated as a Level. Not treated as Rank either).

Returns to Extra Deck at the End Phase, or shuffled back into the Deck instead.(Or possibly another new Zone that can only contain Stride cards that is different from the Extra Deck, with a maximum of 5 cards?).

Stride Summon cannot be conducted if Stride Monster is in Graveyard or Banished. They can still return to the Deck/hand/Extra Deck via cards like Monster Reincarnation and Daigusto Emeral. Still cannot be Summoned, except by Stride Summoning limitation still in place.

Other possible theory:

The monster chosen for Stride must be Level/Rank 8 or higher? Opponent must control a monster from the Extra Deck in order to resolve Stride Summon, as opposed to controlling with a 2500+ ATK.

Otherwise, the Strided monster also has to be from the Extra Deck, as opposed to have a set Level/Rank. If a Strided is removed from the field, I guess the monster Strided on would just return to the field (Even though it technically did not leave it).

Stride Grade has to be 13? However, this way prevents the monster being Strided upon from also considering it's Level used in the Stride.

Monster being Strided upon is not considered to have left the field, and is considered to be part of the Stride Summon.

...I wish I can expand more on this concept. ;_;
