heraldry_lord
Number 18: Heraldry Patriarch [Rank 4/LIGHT/Psychic/Xyz/Effect/ATK 2200/DEF 2200] 2 Level 4 monsters Once per Chain, during either player's turn, if 2 or more monsters with the same name are on the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; choose 1 monster among those with the same name, and destroy all other monsters with that name. While this card remains face-up on the field, your opponent cannot Summon monsters with the same name as any of the monster(s) chosen for this card's effect. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can send 2 "Heraldic Beast" monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard. Looks like Plain Coat is a Heraldry monster over here, instead of a Heraldic monster, but we finally get this, which is very nice. I consider this to be the "true" boss of the Heraldic deck, as it's easy to Summon (including off Advanced Heraldry Art), and it sets up their play with repetition, thanks to being a Unicorn target. The first effect is so situational, I often don't even notice when I can actually use it. XD
Blake
First effect is actually very good against Igknights, provided you make this early enough and don't get Farfa'd.
Resident Fascist
die cis patriarchy scum check your privilege Also, you can get the effect to go off against a decent number of decks, they just happen to not be very good right now, except igknight as Black ninja'd me with. Although, one thing it does that is relevant is it stops Monk -> Monk -> [X] plays, and certain Yosenju plays. Also, double foolish is clearly the best part of this. heraldry_lord
Hmm, didn't think of Igknights; that could be useful, yeah. I'm aware that its first effect can also hurt Harpies, Mecha Phantom Beasts (due to Tokens) and CyDra, but as said, those decks aren't viable right now. Expelsword
This card's first effect has never bothered me, but I could see it really pissing off Cyber Dragons. The second effect can really get them rolling though, I've been taken surprise before of all the shenanigans Heraldry can pull from the Grave. evilfusion
It's an amazing card for the Deck. The first effect is very nice, but not the main selling point. The real beauty of this is the double Foolish, letting you rapidly accelerate your Grave setup. Along with Amphisbaena, this card made Aberconway good. Bringerofcake
Honestly Cydra doesn't care too much about this, since they don't make that many grave or deck plays (save dupe shenanigans). What you're supposed to do is use it in tandem with number 8 and lock the opponent out of their xyz, which really ruins tellars' day.

That might be challenging with their backrow, particularly Stellarnova Alpha. What I like about the effect, besides it being an attempt to get more mileage out of the name-copying effects of Number 8 and 69, is the fact that you can use it on Patriarch himself by having 2 copies out, which gets you 2 Heraldics in your yard; furthermore, the Summon restriction doesn't affect you, so you can revive the second copy with Unicorn. It's also flavourful in a way, because you can have only 1 patriarch/progenitor for the theme. I also like that you can use this with Mind Over Matter, but I'm not sure how viable that is now. True, which makes it all the more satisfying when you get it off. I remember an older build teching a MoM in, but I think it might be weaker now. I remember an older build teching a MoM in, but I think it might be weaker now. I tested it as a tech during that one YCML. According to the Your Deck topic I posted afterwards, my conclusion was "Oh my god, this card sucks". Mind Over Matter is too conditional to be good in Heraldics. It's dead unless you played No.8 or No.18 (or 69), and you have to kill your own monster to use it. So if you have it and want it to be live, you MUST bring out one of those Xyz, when Heraldics value their flexibility. I always sided Mind Over Matter out in favor of MST or Trap Stun.
