Synchronauts: What I wish Yang Zings would have been

EDIT: Most updated version of cards can be found here.

Hey, all. Recently I created a custom archetype, and I've been tweaking them a lot for balance purposes. This is what I have currently, but I'm aware they could be improved, I'm just not fully sure how to do so.

The general idea/inspiration: A Synchro-based archetype similar to Yang Zings, where the Synchro Materials buff the Synchro Monsters they summon. When I first heard about Yang Zings, I was really excited, because I love Synchro Monsters but had never found a Synchro deck I enjoyed playing. For a while I played Yang Zings, but I felt they fell short in a lot of ways. They floated, which was good, but it was typically easy for your opponent to stall you out until they had a board that could take the game. I also didn't love their boss monsters, though they were well-designed. In the end, I considered making custom Yang Zing cards to make the archetype work how I wanted, but the final result felt much too forced, so I decided just to make a new archetype.

The archetype:

Name: Synchronauts

Lore Basis: Robotic recreations of famous historical figures

And that's the archetype so far!

Obviously, there's some work that needs to be done, both with balance and with PSCT, I'm sure. However, after testing them out, I feel like they do capture a lot of what I was hoping for from the archetype, so I'd like to balance them while still holding onto some of that feeling.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm just going to say this now, the Archetype is awesome.Although, you can't synchro summon without a tuner monster.

Thanks! I'm glad you like the archetype. And to address your concern, Synchronaut Ford is the "Tuner" of the archetype (I put that in quotations, but he is actually a Tuner). Granted, the Special Summoning going on via Ford's effect isn't Synchro Summoning in the orthodox sense; it's simply being treated as such, the same way a Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon by the effect of Instant Fusion, for example.

On an unrelated note, this is the issue I'm currently working on with regard to the cards' balance: I'm trying to find a way to modify their Tribute/discard-to-search effects so that they can't simply flood the Graveyard on Turn 1 and bring out any Synchro Monster, but I also don't want to nerf it to the point where you have to play a sitting duck for 3-4 turns before you can actually get a real monster on the board, as I feel that's way too slow.

Bump

So my current balancing idea is to add a "Once per turn" clause to the effect monsters floating and searching effects, as well as making it so that they cannot target other copies of themselves. I don't have updated copies of them yet, but I'll post them once I do. Any other input until then?

Remade all of the cards to varying extents, with the primary intention being to remove unintended exploits/brokenness, but also general balancing issues.

Notable changes

  • Effect monsters' searching effects are now limited to once per turn and have to target monsters other than themselves, meaning you can't just dump the entire deck into the Graveyard first turn and bring out a huge Synchro.
  • Floating has been removed entirely, as it was pointed out to me that the Deck was too good at maintaining advantage.
  • Synchro Summoning with Ford requires you to banish both himself and any other materials used, adding an additional cost and reducing spam.
  • Effect monsters are (with the exception of Häyhä) now only capable of searching monsters.
  • Complete rework of Reconstruction, adding an element of chance and making it less of a Monster Reborn and more of a Synchro Summon setup.
  • Limited Overlord's effect to prevent infinite drawing shenanigans and whatnot.
  • Levels + Atk/Def modified to make more sense and also to make them harder to search for.
  • EDIT: Added "Synchronaut Hippocrates".

Things to possibly work on next

  • Some people have expressed a dislike for the discarding system, but after I implemented another user's suggestion for the once-per-turn limit on the effect monsters, I really don't think it's a real balance issue. I'm open to revising it, but as it stands, especially with the floating gone, the deck needs a way to get something worthwhile on the board within a few turns.
  • Similarly, some people don't like the way that Ford's Synchro Summoning works, saying that it's not really Synchro Summoning. But it's a valid, pre-existing mechanic. And the entire point of the archetype is to make all Synchro Monsters viable by making them easier to summon.

Bump.

Current plan is to fix Overlord by limiting his effect to once per turn. I was hesitant to do this, because it can make it awkward to maneuver cards around to be the targets of Ford's effect, but then I realized Ford could just target them in the Spell & Trap Zone, which is an accompanying edit I'm going to make. I think this is huge in terms of balance, as it means Overlord can no longer abuse "When this card is Synchro Summoned" effects all willy nilly with no repercussions.

Any other input?

The cards are rather heavily focused on Synchro Summoning the Overlord, so some back-up attackers/defenders would be a welcome addition to help getting Overlord summoned quicker/easier, as well as some trap cards and spell cards to back up said attackers/defenders.

Thanks for the reply!

As it stands, I think Rasputin works well as a defender because of his battle destruction immunity. In terms of an attacker, I suppose I could maybe make a Level >4 monster with higher stats that could be Tribute Summoned in the interim, but I'd have to think about what his effects might be.

What sort of things did you have in mind for Trap/Spell backup? Bearing in mind that, as Factory is currently designed, it's beneficial to the archetype to not have many set/continuous Spells/Traps for longer than necessary.

No problem. ^^ I saw you were desperate for more opinions so decided to give my own two cents.

Yeah, that could work, that could work. For basic ideas to work off of, you can never go wrong with piercing battle damage.

For Traps, I was thinking something along the lines of a Machine-protecting Mirror Force-esque card that destroys all opponent's monsters on the field. In terms of spells, I was thinking maybe a Quick-play spell that increases your Life Points by 300/500 for every Synchronaut on the field.

Hope this helps. ^^
