So, after doing a bit more testing, I actually believe Infernoids won't be good.

Some explanation: in OCG, Infernoids are a force to reckoned with because in addition to our triple Reasoning, they also have unlimited Monster Gate and 1 Card Destruction. Infernoids are a boss rush deck, and Monster Gate is strictly better in the longer run. Getting something to tribute is incredibly easy, just drop Antra/Harmadik/Patrulea, tribute it and go to town. It allows you to ALWAYS get your sideboard techs like Kristya or Kycoo, which isn't always the case with Reasoning since when people become more aware of this deck, they will learn to call 4 and/or 8 more often in games 2/3.

I've experimented with filling the extra space with the Void engine. Looked good on paper. Void Vanishment gives you toolbox options, Void Launch is a double Foolish Burial each turn...but it's very very slow. Way too slow for this deck. I guess you could run a more controll-y version. But this deck is the best at boss rushing...and it can't boss rush THAT well in TCG as it can in OCG. Void Dream could have solved that issue, if it wasn't so incredibly inconsistent. Your opponent leaving an extra deck monster up is unlikely nowadays since people are prepared against Shaddolls, and any Shaddoll Fusion out is also a Void Dream out.

That power discrepancy isn't seen as much in casual games since there those little bits don't matter as much, people generally run slower decks and Void Dream will get off more often. Of course I might be completly wrong, seeing as Infernoids won UK nationals. But you know, Volcanics went X-0 on YCS after Blaze Accelerator Reload came out and weren't seen that much since then.

just going to note something, iirc the YCS that Sohrab's Volcanics go undefeated was the last YCS before THSF hits. And well...THSF changes everything.

I doubt CROSnoids position will change that much from its pre-CROS viability. Post-CORE, who knows, the game could be very different at that point, and if clowns becomes a top contender, then it d be a good reason for Infernoid to rise, even without triple Gate and Card Des.

That showing in the UK Nats might mean something, but as you've said, it's not really that indicative for now. People'll catch up with the deck after that, and the deck will lose its ''surprise'' factor in tournaments. Though the possibility of the deck being viable enough atm is there.

Dunno, i'll probably just wait and see.

I think it's a deep shame that Infernoids here aren't having the same kind of explosiveness as the OCG. Being able to throw away half your deck consistently and get out powerful monsters like Kristya, Rai-Oh, or End of Anubis without no conflict is definitely a force to be reckoned with, but here we still have to rely on a petty Lightsworn engine to get the best out of the boss rush strategy.

I would really admire the Void S/Ts much better if they weren't too slow because they all go against the main strategy of Infernoids: Whereas you want to get out things like Attondel and Lilith as fast as possible, things like Void Purification can't really do much effectiveness given 2 turns, and is unnecessary at all cause you want to go out for a win in an instant.

Void Expansion also was nice; I actually mirror matched IRL and lost 2-0, practically cause he used this card and got the cards he wanted. It's neat opening it early game and then going for a victory by milling your choice bosses, but lategame it sucks ass.

Even though it's doubtful Konami might actually buff Infernoids, possibly a reckless @2 for Monster Gate would be very nice. After all, if it Infernoids are the final boss in this gen's DT Series, it actually has to show enough prowess to match OCG's Tier 2-2.5 ish Infernoid level.

For the record, I think Karl Blake going 9-0 with Infernoids tells us more about Karl Blake than Infernoid, but I do think the deck has potential. They also didn't win, they just went 9-0 in swiss then lost in top 32.

Oh, my bad. And yeah, they do have potential. I just don't feel it will be met with the current banlist/cardpool.

At least, they don't have to contend in a full HERO infested metagame right now, so that's something.

OCG Infernoid is really damn faster than TCG, but they're playing a way harsher game over there.

That might mean something, or maybe not.

Look, just be glad we don't have Neptabyss and his 2x Dragoons, 2x Diva, and 2x One for One. That shit is scary.
Clearly I don't know if Mermails are still a thing in OCG
