As the article mentions, this comes not too long after the U.S. assisted in that hostage rescue. It also mentions it's unlikely they'll be on the front lines, though.

I think the U.S. have troops in Iraq but I can't remember if they're actively assisting other than the hostage rescue not too long ago.

I thought Russia had things taken care of there. They were assisting them air support wise. I'm not sure if they sent ground troops though. But I heard that the refugees were returning to Damascus due to it being secure.

No, they never said anything about ground troops from Russia.

Where did you hear Damascus was secure, though? I'm curious.

I don't know how to feel. I'm tired of war, I bet everyone is... But at the same time, we can't stand by with ISIS just killing people!

Two years ago, Obama said he wouldn't send any more ground troops. Now, he's changed that.

But since ISIS sprung up, indeed we can't let them do as they will with killing people in their radical interpretation of Islam.

Though, since the attempt at training Syrians to fight on their own didn't go so well, I suppose this had to be done, despite the earlier promise not to send ground forces.

Honestly, I think the US shouldn't get involved in Middle East affairs any further, and let them deal with their own problems.

We can train them to become competent enough to fight on their own, but otherwise it's their fight.

----

As for Russia, they're "supposedly" bombing ISIS targets, but given their reputation, going to assume that they aren't helping us out much [if at all], and whatever attacks they've made thus far are on said rebels who don't like the Assad regime.

We know Russia has troops in there to help the government forces, but that's about all we know on them.

I thought we had hundreds of former US servicemen volunteer to assist the Peshmerga in Iraq and Syria. The tactical weapons training we supplied the Syrian militia forces didn't turn out too well, and I can understand how the pressure ISIS is putting on western Europe in recent months would incite some desire for direct retaliation, from France and Germany at least.

I completely agree. We already had al-quida..... we don't need another terrorist organization, or war.......

I know you mean well but it's not THAT simple, b/c what if ISIS started on the rest of this world?

We really shouldn't, based on past conflicts the odds aren't great if the US gets involved in an untraditional war. However, Russia who already is combating them should act as though their opponent is a military force. One of the reasons the loses are so great because they are acting as though they are facing Al Qaeda. The current opposition is using military tactics to raid cities instead of traditional kamikaze strikes and rigged traps. Sadly this means that ground troops need to be deployed. Hopefully Russia is up for it so we don't have to have another costly conflict.
