You can only Special Summon "Toy Soldier for All Seasons" once per turn. "Toy Soldier" monsters you control cannot be destroyed by there own effects. Once per turn, you can Special Summon up to 2 "Toy Soldier" monster from your Graveyard, and if you do, destroy them. If you activate this effect, this card cannot attack for the rest of the turn. The manga has one, and so does the anime. So as far as I'm concerned, it's a not real Archetype or anything. Also I'm ignoring them.

Basically the idea here is they have high ATK for there Level/Rank, but end up switching to the opponent's side. And while they are on the opponent's side, they can keep said monster, provided, they put up with the negative effects they have when they appear on your opponent's side. It's sort of like a reverse Greydle Archetype, but without being outright unplayable. Or something like that.

The monsters themselves reference the kinds of nutcrackers/toy soldiers/etc you might find. The spells have a more military/etc concept to them, while the Traps are more stage performance/references to song names.

Interesting concept you got here. I had to re-read the standard effects of the Toy Soldiers a couple of times to understand what was going on with the whole control swapping and "opponent of this card's original owner" clauses.

Anyway, they are gimmicky for sure, but I really see the potential of them going to places. First, they are all 2000+ ATK Normal Summonable monsters, which can get quite scary along cards such as Skill Drain; although it is prone to backfire badly since the opponent will get to control them as beaters with their negative effects locked. And while they have the pseudo "switch control" effects as apparently intended drawbacks, it seems that not only they have the tools to take advantage of it, but actually punish the opponent with it through the self-harming effects. Also, playing "Remove Brainwashing" in the deck is a really amusing idea.

Their 0 DEF makes it easier for you to stay safe from their attacks by summoning them in DEF on the opponent's side and easily run over them if desired. It adds a cute synergy with Masked Chameleon and other 0 DEF support as well.

But what stands out the most in my opinion is the Spell/Trap line-up: They got really good toys, including draw power, non-destruction non-targeting removal, Deck-to-field searching and protection against non-destruction removal (which I found amusing, since effects that protect from destruction are more common, and this does the practically the opposite).

Finally, their Attributes and types seem to be all over the place and don't benefit from straightforward generic or semi-generic support such as ROtA-ish cards, but that's not really a hindrance, and I guess it allows the player to experiment with their traits and try to bring out the most out of them. For instance, one could tech Lonerfire Blossom to search-and-Summon Wooden Toy Soldier, or take advantage of Festive Toy Soldier's WATER Attribute for Abyss Dweller.

Also, playing "Remove Brainwashing" in the deck is a really amusing idea.

Pros would flip it on the opponent's Main Phase, after your opponent decides what to do with them.

'Course, it would just be a 1-off play, since Remove would just keep them on your side the entire time.

Their 0 DEF makes it easier for you to stay safe from their attacks by summoning them in DEF on the opponent's side and easily run over them if desired. It adds a cute synergy with Masked Chameleon and other 0 DEF support as well.

The 0 DEF also plays into the concept of them; They are basically decorative nutcrackers, and those... You aren't really suppose to use them for things, as they are more for display purposes then actual functionality.

protection against non-destruction removal (which I found amusing, since effects that protect from destruction are more common, and this does the practically the opposite).

It also forces your opponent into triggering them, if you have ones leftover on your side of the field. Since they can't bounce/spin/Banish/etc them, they have no choice but to destroy/trigger them.

The random type/attributes plays into the flavor; Given the names, they are implied to be made of different materials/made to look differently/etc. Which is why they have more Archetype-specific Grab-from-Deck cards; It's to compensate for the lack of consistent Types/Attributes.

So the 0 DEF and the different typings are part of their flavor, I see. Well, I concluded their typings were related to their appearance, but I simply couldn't figure out what they represented. I mean, a couple of them like Tin and Wooden Soldiers are obvious enough but, in my case, I still cannot tell what Miniature and Festive Soldiers are supposed to be made of.

And yeah, Field Spell + Remove Brainwashing on your board would make your Toy Soldiers practically unbeatable. It's a scary lock but not an unbreakable one; not to mention that 1 of those cards isn't as searchable.
