I like how the GOP is so desperate to not lose a seat on the supreme court that they are willing to wait NEARLY A YEAR then let Obama point someone.

No, it's wait a year and hope a fellow Republican becomes president and gets to appoint someone. It's extremely funked up, but it seems highly likely.

I'm of the opinion 9 unnapointed men and women should not make laws regarding the future of our country

On topic, Ginsberg may kick it too. Ugh, might have to vote from Trump afterall now

>unappointed

You mean unelected? The Justices are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, in case you forgot about that detail. And the purpose of that was so the Justices didn't have any political distractions and incentives and such when doing their job, yet we know how that's going atm.

"Any President’s judicial nominees should receive careful consideration. But after that debate, they deserve a simple up-or-down vote. . . . It’s time to move away from advise and obstruct and get back to advise and consent. The stakes are high . . . . The Constitution of the United States is at stake. Article II, Section 2 clearly provides that the President, and the President alone, nominates judges." -- Sen. Mitch McConnell, 5/19/05

This is funking absurd.  Can we kick McConnell?  funking idiot.  He says he wants to block Obama but OH LOW AND BEHOLD DURING BUSH'S PRESIDENCY HE'S ALL FOR IT.  God damn pig.

Obama has a pretty easy play to make here; He declares Sri Srinivasan, someone whom the senate approved unanimously for the position as a judge back in 2013. If they shut him down now, the moderates in the senate cite that, point out the Republicans are being obstructive for the sake of being obstructive, tanking there reputation come the general election. Either they take the hit, or they appoint the candidate, either way it ends up as a win for Obama.

Now if another one dies before Obama leaves, that's where this gets really interesting.

All in all, this will probably work out well for Obama (He has basically a year to get someone through, the longest it's taken up to now is like 145 days), and it will also probably highlight again how awful American politics has become.

Speaking of which, did people spy that Ted Cruz took about 20 minutes after the announcement before he started turning this into a political point by trying to deny Obama's right to appoint a nominee. It's rather tragic. https://twitter.com/tedcruz/status/698634625246195712
