vla1ne
it's not broken though, it only hits special summons that are in attack position. it's strong, but it's not quite broken.

Blake
I was expecting this to be "What happened" as in "What the hell happened to Yu-Gi-Oh! and why does Konami now print cards as broken as Number 101: Silent Honor ARK". I was greatly disappointed. It was never broken...? Like, it was good on release, and it pushed the envelope, but it was never outright broken, so idg what your point is. Ryusei the Morning Star
The biggest problem I have is that 101 punishes aggressive investment, ie. SS'd Atk position Monster Castel just punishes investment period, outside of, as Black Noted, Towers-type monsters. Like if you compare the XYZ's from before Castel to after, you can clearly see the rank 4 power creep in action. This might be pushing it, but I'd say 2014 was YGO's peak, and it's only been downhill from there.

The answer to which is "Shadow Specters was the worst-selling set in Japan since Cyberdark Impact".
BlackBeartic
Well if it had the anime eff it'd be better. But busted

The answer to which is "Shadow Specters was the worst-selling set in Japan since Cyberdark Impact".Even then, OCG's February and April formats (Pre-DEAU Post DSF) with both Exciton and 101 are pretty universally accepted as our most beloved format. It's only the advent of stuff like castel that made things like Dracosac bad. Point being, the power-creep largely happened in DEAU, and even there it was manageable outside of Castel

The answer to which is "Shadow Specters was the worst-selling set in Japan since Cyberdark Impact".Oh, I realize, Konami always turns up the creep after bad selling sets. I forget the other 2 really bad sets (Cyberdark Impact is the msot well known, but not as bad as Tactical Evolution, iirc), but 101 really isn't THAT bad. Exciton I'll give you, because it was creepy, but 101 did not fully break the power ceiling. It pushed on it, but never broke it.

Exciton works as a power ceiling and punishes players for over investing in situation where they don't have game or protection Just because TCG/OCG make a banlist move doesn't make it a good or justified move >_>
Blake
On release, Exciton was not a fair card in the least. This changed with time, at least until Nekroz made a catch 22 with it, but it WAS creep on release.
ihop
Do this and Castel really "punish" anyone? In Castel's case especially you're forced to use 2 4s to make a Vanilla 2k attacker, if anyone's being punished there it's the person forced to make Castel being punished by the person with the threatening face-up card. 101 is a little better after getting rid of the card but I really wouldn't go as far as saying it punishes anything. They're just outs.
vla1ne
castel can remove many threats that require higher investment than 2 level 4's. and to an extent, the same goes for 101. In fact, barring monsters immune to targeting and monsters unaffected by everything I hate those kinds of monsters castel can remove anything brought out, and 101 can do the same for anything special summoned in attack position while also being capable of taking 2 hits if not castel'd. Is that a word? 2 level 4s isn't that bad of a cost for that level of power, and being on a 2000/2100 body means that they can occasionally inflict respectable damage if they remove your opponents' only defense.
