Where are you summoning from? You should probably specify where, like the hand or deck. I'm assuming the hand for this instance.

 

Probably not too helpful from hand, since you might just summon the monster anyway and it relies on your opponent, but when you say "rank," that implies you can summon an Xyz monster, which would be great.

 

Bear in mind that only Xyz monsters have rank, so summoning an equally ranked monster from your hand isn't particularly possible.

Granted, this would be nice for getting out particular counters, but I am not a fan of this card being able to summon equivalent Level/Rank monsters without much setup, even if the opponent is Summoning a high Level/Rank monster. I would probably assume most things you chain to will either be Rank 4 for Xyz (since Konami buttered them up so much) or probably Level 6-7 for Synchros and other stuff; depending on what you're up against. Then, there's the idea of running generic ED stuff for the sake of this (kind of in the way people use certain ED monsters as discard fodder for Fuyu Sakura to lock stuff up).

Keep in mind the monster won't be properly summoned, and won't have any Xyz Materials, if applicable. I guess you could go into a 1 mat Lightning if they R4? Or two, technically, if you run Ray/ONE.

 

Still, really nasty stuff.
