IQuitDolphin
[spoiler=Log]DAD 4 GAME: Please tell me how universal healthcare has not worked in any of these nations: Norway, New Zealand, Japan, Germany, Belgium, UK, Kawait, Sweden, Bahrain, Brunei, Canada, Netherlands, Austria, UnitedDAD 4 GAME: Arab Emirates, Finland, Solvenia, DenmarkDAD 4 GAME: Luxembourg, France, Australia, Iceland, Italy, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Spain, South KoreaDuelingDolphin: ok, and is it better than what we have here in the uS?DAD 4 GAME: Iceland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, etc.DAD 4 GAME: Yes, it is significantly better.DuelingDolphin: explain please.DAD 4 GAME: Alright then.DAD 4 GAME: Please do not interrupt thoughDuelingDolphin: sureDuelingDolphin: tell me when doneDAD 4 GAME: Healthcare for the top upper class is probably the best in the US; that is a given. However, the lower and middle classes do not have this luxury. Even if a person does have health insurance, thereDAD 4 GAME: are a lot of things it will not cover--cancer treatments, surgeries, even the payment just to see your regular doctor.DAD 4 GAME: Sure, you can argue that it is a free market economy and up to you to stay healthy, but not everyone can control things like spontaneous diseases or car accidents, which can cost hundreds of thousandsDAD 4 GAME: of dollars to pay for.DAD 4 GAME: If I'm a middle class citizen, paying my taxes, with a regular, average health insurance plan, then most people would consider me to be very fortunate, right?DAD 4 GAME: Well, let's say that I am diagnosed with a terminal illness such as cancer.DAD 4 GAME: Because of the surgeries and chemotherapy, I am now unable to work and unable to pay my bills. Without help from family or government assistance, I am now severely in debt, likely hundreds of thousandDAD 4 GAME: of dollars for something I could not prevent.DAD 4 GAME: Now, are you telling me that it is my fault that I was unlucky?DAD 4 GAME: Now look at the list I gave earlierDAD 4 GAME: As you can see, there's a common occurance throughout it; most developed nations do have universal healthcare.DAD 4 GAME: This is good because it helps the lower-middle class from living in severe poverty for things that are unpreventable, and while you can argue that it would be expensive to implement, it in fact isn't.DAD 4 GAME: Most developed nations do not pay significantly more taxes to the US. If the US simply diverts funds from pointless things like overspending on the military, and if the US decides to be more efficientDAD 4 GAME: with its spending, then universal healthcare is a very real possibility.DAD 4 GAME: All you have to do is raise the taxes on the upper class, even a marginal increase, and inexpensive, public healthcare can be implemented.DAD 4 GAME: Sorry if that was a bit messy and long; I was writing off the top of my head.DAD 4 GAME: Now what is your argument for why universal healthcare, something established in a majority of developed countries, is bad?DuelingDolphin: K, let me go through 1by1DuelingDolphin: As for part a)DuelingDolphin: So first of all, you gave a very heartfelt story of someone who has cancer and is now unable to work and is in debt, all because of the US pay-as-you-go system.DuelingDolphin: But under the Universal healthcare system, said healthcare would be free.DuelingDolphin: However, you aren't the only one with health issuesDuelingDolphin: There are many other people with comparable illnesses and conditions.DuelingDolphin: And even those that have only trivial injuries.DuelingDolphin: However, under a free healthcare system, the care is free, so people will, by nature, abuse something that is of no cost to them.DuelingDolphin: Abuse might not be the right word, but more and more people will start to engage in using said health care, which will lead to more and more people waiting for care.DuelingDolphin: You might never get the scan.DuelingDolphin: as for part b) I never believed in giving poor people benefits.DuelingDolphin: There is this thing called the American Dream, and although not as appealing as it once was, in a capitalist society people make their living, rather than have people give it to them.DuelingDolphin: Taxing the rich is no more than punishing them simply because they simply decided to work harder than most people.DuelingDolphin: done, go ahead.DAD 4 GAME: You do know that income taxes are based on income, right? People with more income will pay higher taxes, because of this, most of the top 1% (mostly CEOs of large businesses, etc.) use loopholes toDAD 4 GAME: have very minimal taxes. You know that, right?DAD 4 GAME: Just asking before I get startedDuelingDolphin: And that is a problem why? They are attempting to save money the same way we are.DuelingDolphin: Wealth is very unstable.DAD 4 GAME: ...DuelingDolphin: You can be rich one day and with poor management become instantly poor.DAD 4 GAME: Okay, I'll get started I guessDAD 4 GAME: For a)DAD 4 GAME: You do give some valid arguments, however, this is mostly fixed in the healthcare systems of most developed nations. In these systems, people are treated in order of importance. Someone who needsDAD 4 GAME: immediate care or even someone with a broken or sprained bone will see care almost immediately, far more quickly than someone who came in for simply a minor stomache ache.DAD 4 GAME: Furthermore, people who are better off can often afford to pay for private healthcare with personal doctors that they can see immediately at any time. However, for the lower and middle classes, thisDAD 4 GAME: is not an option at all.DAD 4 GAME: In addition, another preventative measure against "abuse" of these systems is that most universal healthcare systems only provide for the care that is deemed essential. Unnecessary care, hell evenDAD 4 GAME: things like perscriptions, are often not paid for. This prevents people from "abusing" the system like you claimed.DAD 4 GAME: Now onto b)DAD 4 GAME: I feel like you have a very big misunderstanding about how real the issue of income inequality is in the United States.DAD 4 GAME: Something is very wrong when the top 1% of the population owns more wealth than the bottom 90% combined.DAD 4 GAME: This stems from a myriad of problems that have to do with unrestricted capitalism.DAD 4 GAME: As it stands, the bottom 80% of the population own only 7% of the nation's wealth. This results from things like monopolies and low wages. The GOP, controlled mostly be large corporations as it standsDAD 4 GAME: has been brainwashing the nation that increasing wages will somehow lead to a drastic decrease in jobs. This is very untrue, however, considering that most large corporations and busiensses areDAD 4 GAME: currently headed by CEOs and management with salaries far exceeding even a million dollars.DAD 4 GAME: You argue that the "American dream" allows anyone to reach the upper class.DAD 4 GAME: However, this is statistically almost impossible.DAD 4 GAME: As it stands, people living in poverty almost always live in inncer city ghettos with terrible education, crime, etc., and it there is less than a 1% chance of them getting out of poverty, let aloneDAD 4 GAME: reaching the upper class.DAD 4 GAME: All you've really argued so far is that people abuse the system, something that can be prevented by prioritizing patients and only providing for the most essential care, and that any person canDAD 4 GAME: achieve the "American Dream."DAD 4 GAME: Well, for those living in poverty, hell even those living in the middle class, this is a very unlikely possibility. The US is significantly more difficult to reach the upper class in than most otherDAD 4 GAME: developed nations.DAD 4 GAME: And onto your statement that taxing the walthy is a "punishment."DAD 4 GAME: Give me a breakDAD 4 GAME: As it stands, most of the 1% pay little to no taxes because tax loopholes are a very real thing for business ownersDAD 4 GAME: Also, when the top 1% owns 90% of the nation's wealth, a minimal 5% tax increase will have almost no effect on them, but can conversely reduce the national debt significantly and pay for other socialDAD 4 GAME: systems.DAD 4 GAME: Hell, if you're arguing in favor of the GOP and Republican party, then you should know that the national debt has actually reduced dramatically while democrats were in control. Most of the republicanDAD 4 GAME: party simply use propaganda to make the masses believe that they are reducing taxes when in reality, the tax reductions are minimalDAD 4 GAME: Meanwhile, they spend significant amounds of government money on irrelevant issues--foreign wars the US has no part in, ridiculous immigration control and deportation laws that will never go intoDAD 4 GAME: effect, ridiculous amounts in foreign aid simply to satisfy corporations with international interests,DAD 4 GAME: etc.DAD 4 GAME: Reduce government spending in all these ridiculous areas and instead give a marginal tax increase to top percent and divert government funds to things such as healthcare and education reformDAD 4 GAME: as well as increasing the minimum wage and other issues can greatly improve this countryDAD 4 GAME: I honestly hope you were just trolling to get me to waste time arguing because if not, then I feel sorry for youDAD 4 GAME has logged out I never got to state that "succeeding" Universal Health Care programs are becoming increasingly capitalist and have incorporated many market mechanisms. People in France pay health care out of pocket almost as much as Americans do.
