LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
Okay so I had this in my head for a while. Would it be possible to create different tiers for cards (maybe certain combos or archetypes); as to have different "levels" of playing. Such as how in Pokemon there's OU, UU, RU, NU, and PU (strongest mons in OU, besides those banned to "Ubers", weakest in PU). Basically I'm interested in a discussion about if it'd beA. Possible.B. InterestingC. UsefulAnd how it could work. Of course this could be applied to other games but YGO is the main one for this section.
Ryusei the Morning Star
It's hard to create a thing like that for individual cards, decks sure. But some cards are amazing in one deck and awful in another
Snatch Steal
I honestly think this would work and that it would be interesting to see different Decks return to glory. It may be hard to make Decks usage based, though, because while Pokemon has a handful of ones that will always move between good, okay, and bad, the Yugioh meta constantly adds whole new Decks and strategies that will usually start great, then decay over time until new support is added. Basically, while the Pokemon meta evolves every year or two depending on how creative players are, the Yugioh meta changes every two-three months. Like, Scizor, Skarmory and Tyranitar have been good since generation 2, and Rotom-Wash has always been pretty prominent. On the other hand, decks like Qliphort, Nekroz, Shaddoll, Yosenju, and Tellarknights, from not all that long ago, have run their course and will likely never be seen in the meta for a long time. Not counting demise variants, of course. This argument is probably sheet and both things sound the same, but I'm just saying I think it would be harder. If you really wanted to do it, prepare for a ton of testing.
dustdevil9
Like 【B E ∆ R Y N I C E】 said, the decks fade from being relevant from the meta, heck even out ban/limited list can even keep up in relevancy for cards/decks. As it is decks fall into 3 real tiers: Meta, Rogue, and Casual. Those almost feel self explanatory, except there are too many decks that fall between those labels. As for the tier you want to see. They just aren't too relevant for the game, and would be impossible to manage, especially with new cards coming out ever 2-3 months and the meta Shifting with it. Add in Banlist and it would shift categories. A lot of testing would be needed and it would be conatant
goodfusion
Thank you for posting this Floof. I would absolutely love for this sort of thing to happen as I dislike how competitive Yugioh is orientated solely around the current strongest decks out of whatever's available due to the banlist. I think if Yugioh had tiers, there would be less of divide between "meta" and "casual" as people who wanted to play a weaker deck but still play competitively without getting completely thrashed most of the time could do that. However: There are 700+ Pokémon, with a maximum of 6 per team. There are thousands of cards, with 40-60 per deck. Most of the cards combos off each other, leading to quite different decks by just changing a few cards. New Pokémon are released every few years. There are new cards every couple of months. It sounds hellish to organise indivdual cards into tiers (aside from blatantly obvious ones like Pot of Greed), and even if you tried to organise decks into tiers, the countless variations and random techs make it still sound very difficult. If you were going to do have a go at doing this you would probably want to create a new banlist, as the current (TCG, at least) one is very clearly biased towards Konami's profit margins.
