The concept here is pretty simple. It is intended to have a similar niche to Chill to the Bone, Rend Flesh, Eyeblight's Ending, and Go for the Throat: mediocre in its native environment, but much more powerful when removed from it. Against decks that utilize energy counters, this brings with it an incredibly high risk. Of course, if the opponent has no such technology to harness atmospheric Aether, this just becomes a better doom blade.

 

I decided to go with 4 energy, so that it presents a large enough downside without being too tempting to use on your own guys.
