Monarch King

LIGHT

Fairy/Xyz/Effect

Rank 4

2 level 4 Fairy-Type monsters

ATK 2000, DEF 1300

You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; add 1 Fairy-Type monster from your Deck to your hand. If this card is destroyed by battle, or if this card in its owner's possession is destroyed by an opponent's card effect: You can add 1 "Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen" from your Deck to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Hecatrice, the Exalted Angel" once per turn.

Oh, so Hecatrice now can search both Valhalla and a Fairy to work with.

Guess you could make this with Seraphs for the most part. Then again, I don't see Seraphs really needing help in Summoning, but the search is a search sooooo.

The purpose is to search for what Valhalla will want to Summon and then when it dies to search up Valhalla now live, right?

IDK, if the intention is to support the old Valhalla + Athena build or Agents, it doesn't look like they'd be able to make this card to really increase their search.

Athena's deck would need to have a Valhalla already on the field to even be fast enough to have been able to make a Rank 4 (well, I guess they can go Norden but it's a bit of an issue that they'd depend on it), and Agents don't have a whole lot of Level 4s to make this card. This card would see the Valhalla search effect mostly ignored, and just have the card be used as the King of Feral Imps for Fairies that it is

For the old decks to be supported (again, assuming that was your intention) this card would probably work better as a Main Deck monster due to how slow/tame/different in Levels older Fairy-Type decks can be.

Not sure what else to say here. The card in itself is solid, and that's fine as is. The non-generic materials might hurt it a bit and Valhalla is more of an afterthought than anything else, but don't really know what to suggest on those ends. The card itself again, is realistic as is in any case.

Being able to search for a monster of any Level is often deceptively too good, but I guess the effect should be fine since this not generic and there is King of Feral Imps as precedence, who despite being generic is has yet to be put in the banlist, although their searching pools are different, and Fairies have some gems like Kristya and I guess Honest. I like how along Fairy Cheer Girl this card gives players the option of either searching for a Fairy, or drawing a card.

I agree with Sleepy in that the second effect won't be as important for players, and it seems... actually impractical IMO. It looks like it was intended to act as backup by picking Valhalla after the Xyz is destroyed and assist in establishing your board again, but AFAIK Valhalla isn't a good nowadays, if you run it, the deck most likely will revolve around it and thus wants it as soon as possible, while a floating effect on an Xyz isn't fast nor practical enough, or you would have to destroy this monster yourself in order to get the Valhalla search without relying on your opponent, and that means running or teching cards that destroy your own, namely Sky Iris, Metalfoes and Zoodiac Triangle, which only add to the clutter in the Deck unless you somehow manage to make it work as an effective variant. A first-turn power play I can think of with this card is:

1. Somehow Summoning it and no other monsters

2. Search Kristya

3. Destroy the Xyz with Iris or a Metalfoe scale, searching Valhalla

4. Activate Valhalla

5. Special Summon Kristya for a Special Summon lock on a 2800-ATK body

But that's speaking of at the very least a 3-card combo, which doesn't sound too promising; and it's not like it's an unbreakable lock either.

In short, the card is good for its Fairy searching effect; the second effect is a bit lacking but it's still fine, doesn't need to be any better IMO, and it's more of a bonus or icing on the cake.
