Favorite And Best Fire Emblem Game

Yes I separated them. Because your favorite might not be the one you think is, overall, the best game in the series.

Please do not shame/flame people for their choices. There are merits to both old and new games and I'd like if everyone can respect that.

I really like Blazing Sword and it's my favorite game in the whole franchise. However, I acknowledge that it has flaws, especially its plot.

 

For that reason, Genealogy, for what it introduced and innovated, is probably one of the best games, if not the best. I especially like they merged the world map and battle maps. Path of Radiance might also be considered a "best game" as well as Sacred Stones, at least for its characters.

Favorite game is Sacred Stones, hands down, for the best plot and cast. However, it has some of the worst gameplay in the series, due to how easy it is/how short it is. Not terrible, but just.... easy as funk. Even without grinding anyone bar trainees' first 10 levels.

 

Best game, however... Probably Conquest?

 

Of the ones I've completed/nearly completed, Conquest and New Mystery are the only contenders. So I had to break it down as such:

Gameplay

Cast

 

Of these, I have to say:

 

New Mystery:

Plot: It's basic as funk. Understandably, of course, but still.

Gameplay: Best in the series, barring maybe Geneaology, but I feel like 4 is a lot less balanced than this game. Very harsh, but very rewarding, and never enraging.

Cast: It's... kiiiinda there? Not much of one, but, again, remake of old as funk game.

 

Conquest:

Plot: oh my God it has so much potential why is it funking trash

Gameplay: Second only to New Mystery, from what I've experienced. Maybe a little too harsh at times on higher difficulties, but it is never impossible.

Cast: Best cast in the series after Sacred Stones, unless you want to count Revelations, which is just accentuating both Conquest's and Birthright's casts.

 

So, gotta give it to Conquest.

 

PoR was anotehr contender, but the story isn't astounding, the gameplay is unrefined (PoR is Colloseum, RD is XD Gale of Darkness), and the cast is just okay, for the most part.

 

[international Version] RD has good gameplay, but not as good as Conquest or New Mystery.

 

Blazing Blade is just basic in every regard + kinda easy.

 

6 is hard. Not because it's well designed, because funk YOU YOUR UNITS ARE GARBAGE. Also lack of promotion items.

 

Awakening is SS with worst cast and easier breakability.

Shadow Dragon didn't deserve to exist.

 

Revelations is bad, but at least its cast is good/tries to be gimmicky and rewarding. Tries.

It's interesting to note that more than half of the people didn't vote their favorite for the best.

Seems so far it's mostly Sacred Stones for favorite and very much split between Genealogy, Awakening, and Conquest for best.

Shout out to Dorcas for getting 12th in the Fire Emblem Heroes poll.

 

But actually, giving my favorite as Path or Radiance. Might be biased because it was my first Fire Emblem game, I played it after SSBB introduced me to Ike, but whatever. We get the introduction of arguably the strongest Lord in the series and my personal favorite, Ike, and it's an overall very good game. The story is fine, story's not usually amazing when it comes to Fire Emblem games so whatever. It has some awesome characters aside from Ike as well, though characters like Haar and Nephenee wouldn't become true god tier badasses until Radiant Dawn (where the gameplay also stepped up, at the cost of most everything else which is why it's not my favorite). It also has one of my favorite chapters out of any Fire Emblem game, the Prisoner Release stealth mission.

 

I'm gonna give the best to Awakening, however. It has some problems like any Fire Emblem game, but it's still a very solid game with a fun cast, introductions to some awesome gameplay mechanics, and thankfully removes the limit on support conversations. Most importantly it single-handedly saved the series from cancellation. We have to remember that if it didn't do well, Fire Emblem was done, and boy did it do well. Now look at where we are with the series.

Poll is still close but it seems the favorite so far is Sacred Stones and the best is a tie between Genealogy and Awakening (Which is pretty cool the idea that both an old and new one could be considered best)

The best imo is Genealogy, though if I were to talk from a purely gameplay standpoint Conquest would take it hands down.

I never finished Geneaology (should get back to that but lazeh), but I really do think Conquest is great, in terms of gameplay. Hard as funk, but not due to weak units (6) or plain cheating (13's Lunatic+), just due to good game design. Even the grinding DLC map is balanced like this, which I find rather clever.

 

I think New Mystery has a little edge on it, but as I'm replaying it, I'm also like "oh why are my units so sheet". Not the same problem as FE6's sheet units, but still apparent, so I am changing my mind a little on my earlier statement.
