Andres Niño Murcia
When we think of the concept of a "kingdom," what do we usually imagine? Can a kingdom labeled "cursed" by all others actually be a good place to live? Are the concepts of "dark" and "evil" related? I would like to tell you the story of a kingdom scorned by all others—not only for its perpetually red skies but also for its hostile wildlife. Yet, this kingdom harbors a beauty, prosperity, and depth that almost every other realm in the vast lore of Yu-Gi-Oh! would envy. The Cursed Kingdom was founded by—redundantly enough—the "Founder of the Cursed Kingdom," a unique figure belonging to the race of the most powerful demons to have ever existed (a relative of the "Ultimate Obedient Fiend"). However, contrary to the philosophy of his own world, this figure chose to live in peace, far removed from anything that might remind him of his turbulent home. After wandering through countless lands, he finally discovered a peaceful spot: a wasteland with perpetual red skies, virtually devoid of life and teeming with dangerous wildlife. The Founder laid the kingdom's cornerstone, and after centuries of hard work, he finally saw his efforts bear fruit: a realm where exiles from other worlds could live in peace—provided they upheld the respect, ethics, and the rule of "living peacefully from the heart" established by the Founder. Decades and generations passed, and the kingdom grew to become the "Cursed Kingdom in Its Full Splendor," though it was not always so. At one point in its history, a "Tyrannical and Evil Emperor" rose to power and nearly destroyed the Founder's entire legacy; for this transgression, he was punished by the "Punisher of the Cursed Kingdom." Following that dark chapter in the history of the Cursed Kingdom, the Founder decided to impose a rigorous test of worthiness—supervised by both himself and the "Blacksmith of the Cursed Crown"—upon the creation he had entrusted to the smith: the "Ordeal of the Cursed Crown." For centuries, none of the kingdom's inhabitants dared to seize the "Cursed Crown of the Kingdom" and proclaim themselves Emperor. Eventually, however, the "King of Yamimakai" and the "Aspiring Emperor" arrived and fought fiercely to claim the artifact; yet, the "Aspiring Emperor" usurped the name of the "King of Yamimakai," forcing the latter to retreat empty-handed—transformed into a demonic being and having shed almost all his humanity, save for his soul and heart. Thus was born the first of the current Emperors: the "Brutal Emperor of the Cursed Kingdom"—a being of incredible power, pride, ferocity, and tenacity, yet possessed of a noble and just heart. The "Brutal Emperor" reigned alone for only a brief period, for the Dark Magician—exiled following an eternal battle against his nemesis—appeared in the Cursed Kingdom. There, the Dark Magician vied to wrest the crown from the "Brutal Emperor," hoping to gain greater power; however, in a malicious move, the "Brutal Emperor" himself offered the "Cursed Crown" to his adversary, confident that the "Ordeal of the Cursed Crown" would destroy him, leaving the crown for the Emperor to reclaim. It was a grave error, for—to the "Brutal Emperor's" horror—this act gave rise to the "Magical Emperor of the Cursed Kingdom." After an uneasy period during which the "Magical Emperor" and the "Brutal Emperor" were forced to collaborate grudgingly to maintain the Kingdom's order and prosperity, "Cosmo Queen" arrived in the Cursed Kingdom, seeking to expand her own domains. A new struggle erupted—this time with both emperors pitted against her. It was a fierce battle, but "Cosmo Queen" managed to wrest the "Cursed Crown" from her adversaries. They swallowed hard, bracing themselves for the outcome of the Ordeal... and thus, the "Impatient Empress of the Cursed Kingdom" was born—to the horror of the trio and the barely suppressed laughter of the Founder, for the Crown had never promised exclusivity to any single emperor. Now, the three must work together to maintain order within the Kingdom and for its inhabitants, who enthusiastically welcomed the newly formed Triumvirate. Strengthened by this powerful alliance, the Kingdom faces a bright future; however, the Dragon King's vassals are still weaving a plot in the shadows to crown him and seize the Cursed Kingdom.
