Draco Straybyrn again.
Let this thread show you the truth about the best members.

Here’s why they were banned.

Bhim: Leaking
Draco Straybyrn: Lack of positive contribution to the forum
Cyber Altair: Flaming

Let's review one by one the justification of these three soldiers:

Bhim: All he did was Tell Draco what he needed to know concerning possible Law suits.  In all seriousness, for something like a Raid that you cannot absolutely prove that he was responsible for, who wouldn't call it fair to have him know if he's gonna need to deal with an issue that may have altered the way he maintained his normal life so drastically.

Cyber Altair: He's been around for such a long time, everything he said that got him banned wasn't serious, people just took it too seriously. You know who you are.

Draco Straybyrn:  This one's interesting, because he actually would have gotten something done. No, he DID get something done. Not only did he bring this fine forum of intelligent discussion to life, but he raised the overall graphic design skill level and intelligence of the entirety of the site by at least tenfold. Granted, there is the suspicion surrounding him regarding the pr0n raids, but there's too much that can't be proved, and with the YCMod team already against his movement, their bias could not have been less trustworthy. This does apply both to information provided by him and the dodgy testimonies provided about him by others.

This thread isn't about Draco being banned. This thread is about leaving members who left a positive impact on the forum and did no permanent harm banned, and how it is in fact not beneficial to the forum. Each of these members did do things that warranted at least a small ban each, however permanent bans are taking it too far, or so this house would have the assembled congress believe. These members did great things for the forum. However, this thread is not about what they did, this thread is about the fact that they did.  This house would have you believe that any member who has left an overall positive impact on a forum and not done it any permanent harm or damage warranting and usable as evidence in a lawsuit does not deserve a permanent ban. When it comes to bans, they are generally used as a means of "Eye For An eye" conflict resolution. That being said, permanent bans should only be used for the most serious of cases or for repeat offenders/multiple infractions. Say, 10 infractions in the same time period or 5 offenses that in total would warrant a permanent ban. Could these members really have done things so horrible, violent and permanent that they deserve a permanent ban?

On this forum, on ANY forum really, members contribute to the general well-being of the forum by making posts, participating in challenges, and getting friends to join. That’s just a general description. If you wanted to get more in-depth about YCM specifically, members help each other improve their graphic design skills, they hold competitions, challenges, lotteries and other things to entertain each other and to try and make the forum a better place. Now, not all of the posts may be in good intentions, but the truth is EVERY SINGLE POST made on a forum is a POSITIVE contribution, whether you think so or not. Even pr0n spammers contribute positively to forums—they create a buzz surrounding the incident and get people hyped up and willing to do their part. In fact, they leave the forum better than they found it. The moderators pay closer attention and are more alert/active, the members build the “nationalism” and dedication to the forum, and the overall spirit tends to spike. One could go so far as to say that pr0n spammers are the best things that could happen to a forum, but that would be going a bit far.

Now, when members contribute positively to the forum, they tend to start to build aspirations. On YCM, not many of these aspirations are ever met. Therefore it should be held with great honor and merit when one of these aspirations IS met. Of course I am referring to the creation of the Debates forum. There was a time before the debates forum, when all Other was was spam in the introductions and mindless blasphemy in General and its subforums. Today, the Debates forum is the one jewel shining bright with intelligent discussion and thoughtful posts. Even if not all of the posts in this forum have perfect grammar, they DO have thought put into them more often than not. Before the Debates forum, members would just wander around and not care about Gas Prices, Same Sex Marriage, Taxes or Universal Truth. The debates may not be entirely structured, but overall they do promote intellectual discussions and overall higher intelligence among members. [sar] It totally makes sense to ban the key member in bringing this illustrious gem to life. [/sar]

If we go back to aspirations, many members on forums aspire to be better in whatever they do. It’s a general human trait to aspire to be better in whatever you do. Two members of this site made immense contributions to the graphic design community, allowing many to climb one level higher on their path of skill. Without their harsh criticism and sharp minds, no one would have gotten better. A very wise man once told me that “No man can become great without being told he is not.” This quote applies to anyone and everyone, no matter what you do. Before they started their rise to fame, members would just go around telling each other that they were super amazing and never get any better. The showcase section was full of people spamming each other’s threads with things like “omg lolol epicasjdn 10/10 ilovit zo mch” and “wow ur amazing fdkjlgndflngdlkngf”. Even the stickied shops were somewhat of a disgrace to the site’s name. Now they’re so much better. Everyone has grown. Everyone has moved on. One member came in and decided that they would tell the truth. No more perfect scores. No more thinking it’s fine and moving on with life. People learned to accept their defeat, and strived to win the next time around. There is always a flaw, and members learned to search for them.

When it came to card making, the big name on campus was always God Kaze. His cards were featured in stickies, he had the best contests, and he showed the most skill and finesse in his work. He lived up to his name- members truly thought he was a god. Nowadays, all of that has changed. He is seldom seen around these forums, and some have never even heard of the name. Back in the day however, there was a member who decided that the best just wasn’t good enough any more. He threw the old ratings system out the window and created a new card of the day contest and review thread. One of which was stickied- both should have been. He started challenging card makers to hone their skills and become better than the rest. He presented a challenge that most members had to start doing twice as better than their best just to qualify for. He revolutionized the card making section, and now it’s thinking in ways most players never would. Of course, he and one of his most determined and perseverant contestants became friends quickly. It should seem that when his friend became troubled by possible legal attacks, he should inform him. However, this action was taken as “Treason”, and he was permanently banned.

Each of the aforementioned members has done something truly “epic” for these forums. They’ve taken what was once above average and turned it into subpar. They’ve created new standards and made members think a little bit. They can look back on their lives and in five years from now, they will know that they did do the right thing. They cleared their case. They helped a friend. They revealed the truth. They made these forums better than some veterans would have dreamed of. They’ve shown that the impossible is nothing more than one step ahead. They’ve made an impact on these forums and shown us all what they can do. Their positive impacts have changed these forums for the better now and always. They followed the rules, so they should have been fine. This post proves should be is not the same as will be. So the question posed to you is: How can you justify a ban that lasts forever based on minor infractions, calls of friendship and “facts” that can’t be proven when members have done things that have positively revolutionized these forums forever?
