Guest Star
Yu-Gi-Oh! Land of Nightmares Episode Two: Threatening Roar! A wave of silence swept across the mountainous terrain. You would think it'd be easy for me to get some sleep when there was nothing to hear but the silence of night, but it wasn't to be. I had slept for what, an hour? Probably less. I was always told that I looked drowsy, and that I needed to sleep more. The problem was, it, for some reason, was impossible. Thoughts raced through my mind a mile a minute. One minute I'd be thinking about something, and the next minute I'd be thinking about something completely different. I resided in a place known as Mist Valley. Despite it's rather calming name, Mist Valley was anything but calming. Or at least it is now. It had been a very peaceful place, where almost nothing bad happened. Until the day that our lord was killed. MIST VALLEY - MYSTIC CASTLE - THRONE ROOM - DECEMBER 14, 2008 - 19:00 It was chilly, no, blisteringly cold, outside. The entire Valley had gone inside their homes, caves, wherever they lived, to escape the cold. I had done the same. I lived in Mystic Castle, a large black castle with hundreds of floors. The Lord's Throne Room was on the one-hundredth floor. I usually slept in the throne room to guard the place while our Lord slept. As for my figure, I was about three feet tall. Of course, I wasn't human. My name is Alcrode, but people in the castle call me Kinka-Byo. The reason for that is Kinka-Byo is my spirit name. That's something I'll get to momentarily. I was about six feet tall if I stood on two feet, but that was a very rare occassion. My body itself is purple, and my fur would stick up in many places. I have three tails, and they are all different sizes. As I am a spirit, I have no need for food. However, it was my responsibility to find food for our Lord. I didn't mind it, actually. The castle was always bustling with thousands of servants, soldiers, and the likes, and I wasn't a fan of crowded spaces. So it was nice to get out and enjoy the fresh air. The one thing that I didn't have to worry about was being hunted. I had a reputation around here, and everyone knew that there was no one that could engage in battle with me without being either severly injured, or killed. I have three claws on each paw. When extended, each claw is about seven inches long. My spirit attack is called Silent Slash. The reason being, after I slash a foe, that foe never speaks again, as they are no longer living. Regardless of how strong I am, I am nothing compared to our Lord. Lord Godren has ruled over Mist Valley for seven hundred years. I am only two hundred and twenty-one years old, and I have only been here in Mist Valley for thirty or so years. I came here after my mother was mysteriously killed. No one, not even my father knew what happened to her. Twelve years after I began living hear, I was informed that my father had been killed in a war. That's all this world was now; a battleground for death to come and take the lives of the innocent. I refused to fight in wars. I refuse to kill anyone that is being forced to fight against their will. The only time I did killing is if I Was hunting for food, or if it was to protect the life of our Lord. What happened on the fourteenth of December, just two weeks ago from this very day, is something I'll never forgive myself for. Her name was Ralin, and she is the one responsible for the death of our Lord. She wears an outfit of black, she has razor-sharp claws, and she has one eye. For years she lived among us, protecting the Valley from enemies. But then that day, something happened. She asked to speak with our Lord, and she was teleported to the King's throne room. Once in the room, she used her magic to summon thousands of soldiers. Together, they killed our Lord. There was nothing I or anyone else could do. She sealed the door so that no one could get in. This betrayal was the beginning of the end. She and her soldiers flew away, and our armies were too slow to keep up with them. Then, one week later, we received word from her that she was going to take over the Valley. That wasn't all, though. She plans to open a portal that will connect our world with the planet Earth. She plans to use those with darkened hearts from both worlds to gain access to the Land of Nightmares. The Land of Nightmares is a place of great power. However, it never been accessed. The creators of that land died in that land, and the land is sealed from anyone; humans or spirits. It is rumored that there is a human that lives a life similar to mine. A life full of lonliness and emptiness. One that feels like he is out of place in his world. The last words Godren said to me were "Get out of here". Now, I had assumed that he was just in a rush for me to go and get his food, as he sometimes gets angry when he's hungry. Now that I sit here, two weeks after his death, I have a feeling those words have another meaning. When he told me to get out of here, he wanted me to see the bigger picture. MIST VALLEY - DEATH MOUNTAIN - DECEMBER 28, 2008 - 1:00 There was a reason this place was called Death Mountain. Millions of innocent lives had been taken here. Innocent people, all brutally killed for no reason at all. This is a breeding ground for the dark souls of those that wish to do nothing but harm our world and the world of others. Those that care about nothing but power and supremacy. Well that's not me. This world is tainted with a poison greater than any plague or disease could create. This world is tainted with an evil darker than the darkest night. If that evil is allowed to enter the Land of Nightmares, it will spell the end of the universe. It's time for me to find my place in this world. No, this universe. While Earth and our world are labeled as seperate worlds, we must unite to defeat the evil that lies inside the hearts of humans and spirits alike. In order for that to happen, I must find my way to earth. I must find the human with a life similar to mine. And we must unite to enter the Land of Nightmares before the evil forces. It is said that the Key to Endymion is located in the heart of the Land of Nightmares. With that Key, it is possible to save this universe. And so it's time I stop living this fairy tale gone bad and start living for the greater good. I'm not going to war for my Valley, or even my World. I'm going to war for my Universe. There is good in the hearts of many, and I will bring that good out. What's puzzling is how this all started with the Rilan. I imagine she's just the beginning. I'm sure the road ahead will bring many challenges, but this is something I must do. My name is Alcrode, and I must find the human who's spirit name is Wing. Aelsthla-Mental
Interesting fanfic, we got three worlds and at least two of them are looking for "Wing". The plot is going along nicely and I'd like to see how it turns out. Although from the name, it is most likely going to center on this "Land of Nightmares". Seems a bit odd though if it has no humans or spirit (except one possible one), just what kind of power can it have? Well, good luck!

Guest Star
Episode 3: The Nightmare Begins PREVIOUSLY ON YU-GI-OH: LAND OF NIGHTMARES, EPISODE 1: So, we've met six characters so far in a total of three episodes. Two of those characters, Taylor and Ryan, began a duel for no real reason aside from the fact that, well, they wanted to. Not much has really happened yet, aside from a few cards being sent to the Graveyard. But when we left off, Taylor had an Iron Chain Repairman on the field, along with a Poison Chain Spell Card, while Ryan had a Hunter Dragon. Let's get things started! Damilton put his arm over his face to shield his eyes from the sunlight pouring in the window. He glanced at his watch. 3:45? Wow. He had really overslept. Well, it didn't really matter. He figured he'd go to the park and maybe go for a walk or something. Staying in the house all day wasn't going to be fun. Plus, he had to protect the people of the city. He pushed his comforter onto the floor and stepped out of his bed. He was wearing blue pants, and no shirt at the time. His hair was spiky and black, and his skin was really tan. It was like he had fallen asleep in a tanning booth and not woken up until hours later. He was really tall; six feet, six inches tall, to be precise. That wasn't bad, though, considering he was twenty years old. Now, Damilton was a pretty basic individual. There was one thing, though. Nevermind; we'll save that for later. Damilton walked over to his closet, slid open one of the doors, and grabbed his sword. Yes, that's right, I said sword. Nobody knew if he knew how to use the sword, but he never left the house with it. He threw on a black t-shirt, socks, and sneakers, and made his way to the front door. He stepped outside and took in a breath of the cool afternoon air. Today was going to be a walk in the park. Or so he thought. Taylor and Ryan stood face-to-face in what could be considered an intense staredown. They didn't know each other, but Ryan's ego and Taylor's annoyance with Ryan's ego made it so they each wanted to defeat each other. Taylor wasn't worried though; he had a plan. But enough of me telling the story for now, let's get back into it. "You're gonna pay for that! I'll take your stupid Repairman off the field! Then your Poison Chain won't be able to do any more damage. Before I do, though, I'm going to activate my face-down card! Go, Secrets of the Gallant! With this, when my Hunter Dragon inflicts Battle Damage to you this turn, you have to discard 2 random cards from your hand!" "Ouch, that one's gonna sting a little. "Prepare to feel pain! Hunter Dragon, attack his Iron Chain Repairman with Turbulence Blade!" One of the blades on the dragon's head detached itself and flew toward the orc. Suddenly, Marauding Captain jumped in front of the orc and was hit by the blade. Taylor's Life Points: 3500 "What just happened? I chose your Repairman as a target, not your stupid little soldier!" "Sorry, but when Marauding Captain's out, I call the shots! Since my Repairman is a Warrior, you can't attack him as long as my Captain's out. A sacrifice, but a worthy one at that. Thanks to Marauding Captian, my Repairman is safe and sound." "Your Repairman may be safe, but your hand certainly isn't!" Taylor randomly selects two of the cards in his hand and sends them to the Graveyard. Iron Chain Coil and Reckless Greed have been sent from Taylor's hand to the Graveyard. "So now who's the tough guy?!" "This idiot is really getting on my nerves. Luckily for me, thanks to his Trap Card, this duel's as good as over. Who's the tough guy now? Is that what you're asking me?" "I didn't stutter!" Taylor put his hand to his face for a moment. "Heh. You're so annoying." "What is that supposed to mean?!", Ryan asked, his face full of anger. "I can't make it any simpler. You just don't know when to shut up. You ramble on and on about how great you are, when, quite frankly, you haven't done anything impressive. At least not in this duel." "You don't call taking down your monster and making you discard two cards from your hand impressive?" "Against a normal opponent, it would be. But I'm not a normal opponent. You see, I build my Deck so that I can always have a strategy, regardless of the situation. All of my cards work well with one another. So if you get rid of some of my cards, I still have a strategy waiting in the wings. That's why you're not impressive. That's why you can't defeat me." Ryan stood, in what seemed like a state of shock. "Is this kid serious? If what he's saying is true, then no matter what move I make, he's going to have a way to come back from it. I can't win against an opponent like that! Wait a second; who am I kidding? He's just talk. Unlike me, he just talks the talk. I can talk the talk, and walk the walk. If he doesn't believe me, I'll prove it to him. You almost had me for a second, but you're wrong. You're all talk. You have no way to take out my dragon or any of my other cards. All you can do is stall until I defeat you. Which, unfortunately for you, is right around the corner." "I've gotta be honest; I'm a bit surprised that you still managed to keep your cool after I said that. At least you have one respectable trait. Don't believe anything anybody says until you see it for yourself. Otherwise you're going to find yourself in deep trouble. However, what I said is true. I don't expect you to take my word for it, though. So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to prove it to you." "Oh yeah?! How so?" "By allowing you to select any card from your Deck and add it to your hand. You see, I'm going to prove that even if you use your best card, I'll have a strategic way to counter it." "Any card..from my Deck?" "You heard right. And here's how. Since I'm sure you're finished with your turn, I'm going to start mine.", Taylor replies, drawing a card from his Deck. "And I'll start by activating the Spell Card Neutralizing Mist." Ryan takes a step back as Taylor's card appears on the field and white mist begins to seap out of it, seemingly consuming the entire area. "What's that thing do?!" "Don't get all worked up. Well, not yet. I'd save your panicking for a few minutes." "Haha! Yeah right! I don't panic, because nothing scares me! There's no way some idiot like you is going to defeat me! So get on with it! What does your stupid Spell Card do?!" "Neutralizing Mist has but one simple effect. It allows you to select any card from your Deck and add it to your hand." "That's it? What a stupid card.", Ryan said, taking a card from his Deck and placing it in his hand. "Keep telling yourself that. It might help to reduce the pain when I knock your ego down a few pegs." "It's not ego if it's true. Besides, I'm not going to lose! Get on with your turn already!" "Alright then. Next I'll activate the Special Ability of my Iron Chain Repairman.", Taylor said as his Repairman raised its hammer into the air and it became surrounded by a green glow. "What happens now is, I get to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Iron Chain monster from my Graveyard." "But there are no monsters in your Graveyard! Oh wait a minute! I.." "Sent two cards to my Graveyard with your Trap Card. It just so happens that one of those cards was an Iron Chain monster. You must be disappointed." "He was hoping I'd use something to get rid of cards in his hand. That way, he'd be able to get another Iron Chain monster on the field with his Repairman's Special Ability!", Ryan said to himself, wide-eyed. "So you're beginning to figure it out. I don't say stuff just for the h*ll of it. I know what I'm talking about. Especially when it comes to dueling. Moving on, allow me to introduce you to my Iron Chain Coil (1100/1600).", Taylor replied as a small red machine with clown shoe-like feet, chains for arms, and a mechanical face emerged on the field, glowing in a manner similar to that of the Repairman's hammer. The two monsters stood side-by-side on the field as Taylor stared at Ryan, his hair blowing in the wind. "S..so what? Your Iron Chain Coil isn't strong enough to take out my Dragon either!", Ryan shouted, trying to keep his cool. "Drop the act already." "What act?!" "Your silly tough guy act. You and I both know full-well that I wouldn't have wasted my time bringing my Coil back if it wouldn't prove to be beneficial. See, Iron Chain Coil is a Tuner monster." "A Tuner monster?! But that means..!" "I'm allowed to combine it with my Iron Chain Repairman to Synchro Summon a Synchro Monster. And with no Defenses, there's nothing you can do about it." Ryan stood with a distraught look on his face. "Arrgh." "What's the matter, pal? You don't seem so confident now." Suddenly, Ryan's hands began to shake and he began breathing heavily. "What the? Dude, are you ok? It's just a game. I mean..", Taylor replied with a sound of concern in his voice. "What's going on?" A large, shadowy figure appeared in front of Ryan, who was still in a state of panic. The figure was visible only to Ryan at this time, and Ryan knew this. "What..what are you doing here?" "You..have..failed..us." As Ryan continued to speak, the confidence was slowly drained from his voice to the point where was speaking like a terrified little kid. "Sir, I ha..haven't failed you. I've been doing exactly what I was instructed to do." "That..you have not done." "I..I don't understand." "Take a look at your opponent's field. You'll notice he has the ability to Synchro Summon a Level 7 Synchro Monster." "Yes..what about it?", Ryan said. "You have lost this duel." "How so?" "Your opponent, that boy, is more intelligent than you could ever hope to understand. He was making an understatement when he told you that he always has a backup strategy. That boy plans out his moves before he even ends his first turn. He adjusts his strategy based on the way his opponent plays, sure, but he knows what he's doing." "No way..Are you saying I lost from the getgo?" "Any hope you had of winning the duel was quickly taken away by your overconfidence. You're so sure of yourself that you don't pay any attention to your opponents moves." "I don't understand. It's early in the duel. What makes you think he's going to win this quickly." The shadowy figured raised what looked like an arm (it's impossible to tell as the figure is barely visible), and in its hand, was a white Duel Monsters Card. Obviously a Synchro Monster. But this was one that Ryan had never seen before. "What is that?", Ryan asked nervously. "This is the card your opponent is about to Summon. It is called Iron Chain Psynetic. It is a Level 10 Synchro monster that can be Synchro Summoned by using an an Iron Chain Tuner and another Iron Chain monster. The Levels of the monsters don't matter in this situation. Iron Chain Psynetic, in addition to having thirty-two hundred attack points, has a Special Ability. When it destroys a monster by battle, its controller can remove a monster from their Graveyard with the same Level as the monster it destroyed to inflict damage to their opponent equal to its original ATK, which is thirty-two hundred. What that means is, you would have lost forty-seven hundred Life Points. You had no way of protecting yourself from the attack, and therefore, you lost." "Please..give me another chance. I promise I won't make another mistake." "It's too late for that. You have failed us, and you shall pay with your life." Ryan disappeared, along with the shadowy figure, in a burst of black light. "What the h*ll?!" Taylor stepped back as strong winds began to blow throughout the area. He looked around for a moment and noticed a man walking on the path. Suddenly he it occurred to him that he and that man were the only two people in the park. The man was young, probably around twenty. We just recently met him. He goes by the name of Damilton Blake. "You alright there, kid?", Damilton said, walking up to Taylor. "Yeah, I guess so." "What in the world just happened?" "I have no idea. I was just dueling this kid. Annoying, yeah, but he seemed like a good kid. All of the sudden, I Summoned my Iron Chain Coil..", Taylor said, holding up the card so Damilton could see it, "..and the kid just stood there. His hands were shaking, and he was breathing deeply." "That's weird. Did you notice something? The park is completely empty." "Yeah..I noticed that. I don't know what's going on, but something tells me the worst has yet to come." "I agree. The name's Damilton Blake.", Damilton said, extending his hand. Taylor shook his hand. "The name's Taylor. Taylor Kashiro." Suddenly, Damilton's eyes widened in surprise. "Is something wrong?", Taylor asked. "Wait, did you say Taylor Kashiro?" "Yes..why?" "I wonder if he's heard. Nevermind." "No. What is it?" "Well, it's just that, I was watching the news yesterday, and there was a report about a man who was shot and killed yesterday. His name was Andal Kashiro." Aelsthla-Mental
Wow... Not only did that guy die for losing due to no fault of the duelists, but he was a rather expendable minion of some dark entity. Looks cool, and interesting that a (main?) character uses a chain deck, yet it works. Well, good job! Not sure if it really ties everything, but the fact that the guy's brother was shot sounds like a plot...

Guest Star
PREVIOUSLY ON YU-GI-OH!: LAND OF NIGHTMARES (EPISODE 3): We picked up where we left off in the duel between Taylor and Ryan. In an intense showdown, Taylor managed to turn the duel in his favor, thanks to his Iron Chain Repairman. Just as Taylor was about to perform a Synchro Summon, a shadowy figure appeared and told Ryan that he had lost and he would pay for his failure with his life. Meanwhile, we were introduced to a character by the name of Damilton Blake. Not much is known about him yet, but he sure played an important role, informing Taylor, after learning that his last name was Kashiro, that a man named Andal Kashiro was found dead earlier in the day. Who is Damilton Blake? Does Andal Kashiro have any relation to Taylor? Why am I wasting your time with all of these questions? Episode 4: The Dark Room of Nightmare 129 STOCKTON ROAD - NEO DOMINO CITY - 4/12/2003 - 21:25 Taylor couldn't sleep. It was a cool evening. Not surprising, really, as it was early spring. Not really expected to be warm yet. He wasn't sure why he was unable to sleep; he usually fell asleep without a problem. He shrugged it off and walked downstairs to the kitchen. He'd just get a glass of water and hopefully fall asleep without a problem. He was surrpised to see his father sitting at the table. His father had gone to bed before him, and yet here he was, sitting at the table now. Since he was only ten years old, Taylor had to go to bed at nine-thirty p.m. Usually, though, his dad would go to bed at nine o' clock p.m. because he had to wake up around four a.m. for work. What was even more surprising was the fact that his dad was looking through a deck of Duel Monsters Cards. His dad had been a duelist when he was younger, but he decided to quit dueling and join Aurora, a World Threat Protection Agency. Taylor wasn't a big fan of his father's job, mainly because of the danger involved in it, but his father made good money, and he seemed to enjoy his job, so Taylor never brought it up. Not that it would have mattered; his dad was as stubborn as they come. His dad was forty-three years old now. He quit dueling when he was twenty years old, and had been working for Aurora ever since. For this reason, it struck Taylor as odd that his father was looking through a deck, most likely his old deck. As Taylor entered the kitchen, his father looked up from the deck of cards and noticed Taylor. He had a slight look of concern on his face. "Hey son, what are you doing up so late?" "Sorry dad, I just couldn't sleep." "That's alright. Why don't you sit down and play a game of Duel Monsters with me?" Now this was just weird. His dad was asking him to play Duel Monsters? What in the world was going on? His dad liked the fact that he was a duelist, albeit the fact that he wasn't very good. Which, of course, is understandble, as he was only ten years old. "Uh..I guess so. I thought you weren't into Duel Monsters anymore." "I've never been not into Duel Monsters, son. But I needed to get a job that gave me enough money to support us. That doesn't mean I don't miss my old life." "Oh..well, sure, I'll play a game. Just let me get my deck." Taylor exited the kitchen and quickly ran upstairs to grab his deck. He had never had a chance to duel his father, and, even though it was late, he figured it would be fun. He re-emerged in the kitchen to find his father shuffling his deck. "Alright, I'm ready dad." His dad smiled. "Okay then. Hey, why don't you make the first move?" "Uh, okay.", Taylor replied, shuffling his deck before placing it on the table and drawing five cards. "My go.", he said, drawing another card. "I guess I'll start with my Totem Dragon (400/200) card.", he said, placing it on the table in a vertical position. Keep in mind, guys, that they're not dueling with duel disks, so there aren't any holograms in this episode. Therefore, I won't be describing the cards, as there's not much to see other than the card(s) on the table. "Hmm..This should be rather interesting." "Darn! I should have played it in Defense Mode. I wasn't thinking. Maybe I am pretty tired after all. Well, it's too late now. Maybe this face-down will help.", Taylor said to himself, taking a card from his hand and placing it face-down, horizontally, on the field. "I'll set one card down and end my turn." He had never dueled his father or even known what kind of deck his father used. He had dueled a lot of kids at school, but that was about it. Something told him he didn't have the experience level he needed to defeat his father. "I guess that means it's my turn.", his father replied cheerily. "Let's see what I can do.", he said, drawing a card from his deck and adding it to his hand, which already consisted of five cards. "Ah, this seems like a nice way to start. I'll Summon Iron Chain Blaster (1100/0) in Attack Mode. Now I'll have my Iron Chain Blaster attack your Totem Dragon." Taylor placed the Totem Dragon in his Graveyard and marked on a piece of paper that his Life Points were now at 3300. Taylor's Life Points: 3300 "Son, here's a tip. You shouldn't play weak monsters in Attack Position. Especially not on your first turn. Otherwise you'll end up losing very quickly." "Sorry to burst your bubble, dad..", Taylor said, smiling, "..but I've got a Trap Card to activate." "Oh. Do you now?" "Yeah! It's called Damage Condenser, and here's how it works. When your monster does damage to me in battle, I can discard a card to Special Summon a monster from my deck with an attack lower than or equal to the amount of damage I took." Taylor took a card from his deck and placed it on the field in a vertical position on the field. It was another Totem Dragon (400/200). "Another Totem Dragon, eh? This duel might be interesting. Alright then. I'll place one card face-down and call it a turn." "Okay cool!", Taylor shouted, drawing a card. "Now I'll start mine. See, my Totem Dragon has a Special Ability. If I tribute it to summon a Dragon-Type monster, I can treat it as two Tributes instead of one!" "A most interesting special ability.", Taylor's father replied, trying to support Taylor even though he was familiar with Totem Dragon's effect. "You bet it is! However, I'm not going to use it just yet. I'm going to sacrifice my Totem Dragon, but not so I can summon a Level 7 or higher dragon!" "What's this?" "I sacrifice Totem Dragon to play Strong Wind Dragon (2400/1000)!", Taylor shouted, placing his Totem Dragon in the Graveyard and replacing it with Strong Wind Dragon." "Hold on a second. Strong Wind Dragon? I've never heard of such a card. I don't remember that card being in the deck I gave Taylor. Where did you get that card?" "Haha! You like it? I got it from my friend at school! He gave it to me for nothing after I defeated some kid that was picking on him in a duel." "That's my boy. He's only ten years old, and already he's standing up for his friends. But what's the deal with that dragon? I can't help but think that I've seen it before. That was very nice of you. And you got a pretty cool looking card out of it too." "Strong Wind Dragon has more than just looks. Ya see, when it's put into play by tributing a Dragon-Type monster, it gains attack points equal to half of the attack points of the monster that is tributed to summon it. Since my Totem Dragon had four hundred attack points, Strong Wind Dragon gains two hundred attack points!" (2400) + (200) = (2600) "You've been very impressive so far. It seems like you've improved." "I don't know. I'll never be on your level, dad." "Never say never, son." At that moment, things just felt weird. Taylor sat at the table, across from his father, and looked around the room. None of this really made sense. As long as he'd been alive, he'd never seen his dad with a Duel Monsters deck. But now, here they were, he and his father, dueling. Maybe he was putting too much thought into it? Maybe he was just overtired. Who knows? "I might as well try to win. But I'm really tired. Well, here goes! I'll have my Strong Wind Dragon attack your Iron Chain Blaster!" "As you said earlier, sorry to burst your bubble, but I can't let you do that. I activate the Trap Card Desert Sunlight.", his father replied, flipping his face-down card face-up. "What this card does is change my Iron Chain Blaster to Defense Mode. In other words, I'm safe for now." "I wouldn't be so sure." "Huh?" "Well see, Strong Wind Dragon has a couple of special abilities, not just one." "Does he now?" "Yep. Allow me to explain. See, if Strong Wind Dragon Battles a monster in Defense Mode, it still does damage." "Ouch. That's not good. This dragon seems pretty powerful. That means.." "You lose twenty-six hundred Life Points! Yay!", Taylor replied, excited about the fact that he was winning. His father marked on a piece of paper that his Life Points were now at 1400. Taylor's Father's Life Points: 1400 "What a move, Taylor. I'm very impressed." "Thanks, dad.", Taylor said, his face turning a bright red. That meant a lot to him. He wanted to become a good duelist, like his dad was, and having his dad tell him that he was impressed definitely gave him confidence. "If you thought that was impressive, just wait until you see what I do next turn!" "Don't get ahead of yourself. You still have to worry about my turn. I wonder..will he actually win this Duel? It's not that he's not good, but he's always so down on himself when it comes to Dueling that he never builds up enough confidence to win. Maybe that Strong Wind Dragon card was exactly what he needed to raise his game a few levels." "Don't worry about me! I know what I'm doing! I'll play one card face-down and end my turn!" "Here goes nothing. I'll start by playing Iron Chain Snake (800/1200) in Defense Mode. Next, I activate the Spell Card Iron Backup Squad! What this does, is allow me to select 1 Iron Chain monster I control and pay Life Points equal to it's original attack points. Then, I can Special Summon two copies of the selected monster from my deck!", Taylor's father shouted, placing two more Iron Chain Snake (800/1200) cards on the field next to the one that was already there. "Hey dad?" "Yes?" "It's cool that you've got a bunch of monsters out, but none of them are strong enough to take down my Strong Wind Dragon. What exactly are you planning to do?" His dad smiled. "Sometimes, attack points aren't everything. You see, with the effect of my Iron Chain Snake, I can equip an Iron Chain Snake to your monster and decrease its attack points by eight hundred. Since I have three Iron Chain Snake, I can equip all three of them to your Strong Wind Dragon, which reduces its attack points by twenty-four hundred." (2600) - (800) - (800) - (800) = (200) "Well this is disappointing. I should have seen this coming. I wasn't using enough strategy." "Well, son, don't get upset. It's just a game. However, I do agree that you weren't using enough strategy. You sort of just played a powerful monster and expected to win because of its attack points. That's not how the game of Duel Monsters works. Sure, attack points play a big part in a duel, but they're not the main focus." "Hey wait a second. You already Normal Summoned this turn, so you can't play a monster anyway. I was getting all worked up for nothing.", Taylor said, relieved. "Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not done playing monsters yet.", his dad said, smiling. "I think I'm going to play my Cyber Dragon (2100/1600) card!" "Oh that's right! Cyber Dragon can be Special Summoned from your hand when you control no monsters and I do. Your Cyber Dragon has more than enough attack points to take out my Strong Wind Dragon." "There's more. You see, when a monster equipped with Iron Chain Snake is destroyed in battle, its controller has to send cards from the top of their deck to the graveyard equal to the level of the equipped monster. The level of your Strong Wind Dragon is six, and there are three Iron Chain Snake equipped to it, so that means you'll have to send eighteen cards from the top of your deck to the graveyard." "Eighteen cards?! No way! That'll leave me with only a few cards!" "Now then, Cyber Dragon will attack your Strong Wind Dragon." Taylor wrote 1400 on the piece of paper, signifying that his Life Points were now at 1400. Then, he took the top eighteen cards of his deck and placed them in his graveyard, which was much larger than his deck now. Taylor smiled as he flipped his face-down card face-up. "Now it's my turn to do some damage. You see, since you destroyed my Strong Wind Dragon in battle, I can activate my Dragon Recursion Trap Card! With this, I can return the dragon you just destroyed to my deck, and add a Dragon-Type monster with a lower level from my deck to my hand!" "Ah, quite an impressive move!" "Thanks! So now I'll return Strong Wind Dragon to my Deck and add Magna Drago (1400/600) to my hand!" "A Tuner monster, eh? What exactly is he planning? Alright then. I end my turn." Taylor smiled as he drew a card. "Alright! I might actually win this thing! Check this out dad! Since Totem Dragon is in my graveyard, and I don't control any monsters, I can Special Summon it! There's more, though. Since there are two Totem Dragon (400/200) in my graveyard, I can chain their effects to each other and Special Summon both of them!", he shouted placing two Totem Dragon cards on the field. Taylor's dad opened his eyes wide in surprise as he realized what Taylor had just done. "With his two Totem Dragons out, and the Magna Drago in his hand, he can Synchro Summon a Level 6 Synchro Monster." He smiled for a moment, realizing something else. "He's been planning this from the beginning. He wanted his Strong Wind Dragon to be destroyed so that he could get that Tuner. It all makes sense now! But how could a ten-year old boy think of a strategy like this?" It was at that moment that Taylor's true potential had been realized. Well, I guess there's no point in finishing the duel, right? Why bother? Oh alright, I'll finish it. "S..something wrong dad?" "No, it's nothing. Why don't you finish your move? It's getting pretty late, you know?" "If you say so! I summon Magna Drago (1400/600) in Attack Mode! Next up, I'll Tune Magna Drago with my two Totem Dragons to bring out the one, the only, Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Boundary (2300/1400)!", Taylor shouted, placing his monsters in the graveyard before placing the Synchro Monster on the field. "Wait a second. You got another Synchro Monster? I thought the only one you had was Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth." "That was true, until about two days ago. I woke up and looked on my bedstand and there it was; Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Boundary. Someone had left it there." "What's going on? Someone left a Synchro Monster for Taylor. Don't tell me they've finally decided to enlist him. Pretty lucky, I guess." "Yeah, I'll say! You won't believe what Brionac does, dad! See, I can discard a card, and return your Cyber Dragon to your hand." "You can do what?!" "In other words, this duel is over! I won, I actually won!" Taylor smiled before putting his head down on the table and falling asleep. His dad carried him upstairs and tucked him into bed. There was no way he was going to get to sleep now. Not after what had just happened. But at least Taylor was sleeping. His father walked downstairs and stopped when he heard a knock on the front door. "What's this? It's midnight. Who could possibly be here at midnight?" He looked through the peephole and saw nothing. He turned around, and standing behind him was a large purple wolf-like creature. It was standing on all fours. "What in the..?!" "Shh..be silent. You'll wake the boy. My name is Riorn. I am a Duel Spirit. Be calm. I am not here to harm you. Rather to give you some information. Your son is a Legendair. He is one of the people that have been selected to save the world." "My..my son? Selected to save the world?" "I realize none of this makes sense now, but it will over time. In five years time, things will start to become more clear." And with that, Riorn was gone. DOMINO PARK - NEO DOMINO CITY - 12/28/2008 - 16:27 Taylor and Damilton stared at each other. Neither one moved a muscle for a matter of minutes. "So that's what happened. I defeated my father, and ever since that day, neither he nor I have been the same. We've seemingly grown distant. Not so much distant; I mean, he still talks to me, but things just aren't the same as they used to be." "Can I ask you something, Taylor?" "Sure, go ahead." "Have you ever heard of the Legend of the Legendair?" "N..no. What is it?" "It's an ancient legend that tells of a time when another realm, somewhere in this universe, will go to war with our realm. The Legendairs are the people that will form an army to defeat the opposing realm. It is said that the Legendairs were selected millions of years ago by the gods themselves, but it is not known if this is true." "Woah..that's just..scary." "I agree. However, it is said that humans will team up with Duel Spirits to defeat the opposing realm. Those with the abilities to see Duel Spirits are called Legendairs." "What exactly are you getting at?" "I myself have the abilities to see Duel Spirits." "You do?" "Yes. And something tells me you do as well. Of course, you're a bit too young to notice it now, but I think that the experiences you've gained throughout your life will allow you to see Duel Spirits earlier than you were supposed to. Now, I realize today is a very hard day for you." "It just doesn't make sense. Why was my father killed? Why couldn't it have been me? I have no purpose in life anyway. He was a hard-working man, and he deserved to live." "You have to wonder; would your father have felt the same way? Taylor, life is God's most precious gift. It's not something to throw away. Whether you choose to believe it or not, you do have a purpose. And while I'm not completely sure, I believe your purpose is to save the world like is written in the Legend of the Legendair." "You mean, you really believe I'm a Legendair like you?" "Only time will tell. But what happened today has convinced me that you are. And you know that your father would have wanted only the best for you. But there is one thing; he may have known about this and hidden it from you. If he did, then it was with good reason. Your father may not have wanted you to become a Legendair. You must think things over. But right now, I suggest going home and getting some rest." "I don't even know where home is anymore." "Why don't you come to my parents' place? You can sleep on the couch. It's obvious you need some rest."
