Alot of people in my family who smoke have been cuitting down. But getting rid of it would be a problem' date=' Getting people to stop after they have been smoking when there was no warnings is a bigger problem, Its not just a snap of the fingers, It could take up to a year or more to get off smoking, Unless you get help

[/quote']

hey, some of my friends have parents who've been trying for more than 12 years despite all warnings and such and they still can't do it

Ino,Same as my dad i didnt mean to like,Hurt you or anything. My nan was been trying for 5 years, My grandad for 5, My auntie for at least 3 and my dad for at least 4

If they can't quit smoking in 5+ years, then they are wasting their time =/

Only the people with the strongest will to quit smoking can quit smoking =/

that should depends on how many years they've been smoking before they began trying to quit

Take my Aunt for example; she smoked for about 16 years, then decided to quit, approximately, took an year for her to quit smoking. =/

To sum it up, it depends on how much the person wants to quit smoking. =/

Big deal. Most of my friends' parents want to, they just can't. You can say their will is too weak if you want

Smoking will not be stopped, sad fact of life. You can tell people, but they will still smoke, unless they have the will power to stop. Even if you do stop, it takes a long time for the risk to reduce... Just another case of humans not knowing enough about something before giving it to others.

I try to not be near smokers, smoke and aerosol spray irritate my asthma, atleast I don't have my nearly daily exposure to 2nd hand smoke I used to get on the way to school anymore. I used to always pull my jacket up over my nose.

Making it illegal like a prohibition would fail like the prohibition of alcohol in the US failed.

Sometimes not even a death in the family will stop people, my 2nd cousin (probably not blood relation, but that's a different story) still smokes, even though my Gran contracted Lung Cancer.

Second Hand smoke does kill, because of what it contains, illness/deaths/problems from the following have been attributed to second hand smoke:

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Coronary Heart Disease - Increases risk. 50%

Asthma

Lung Cancer - 20% increase risk if your spouse is a long term smoker.

Respiratory Tract Infections

Inflammation of the Middle Ear.

Erectile Dysfunction - Increased risk (worse if you're a smoker)

Low Birth Weight. - Linking to other infant health issues.

Children have a lower chance of successful surgery - 70% compared to 90% in smoke free home.

(Multi Source: located on Tobacco-Facts.info.)

Rag 30 mins is enough to effect a passive-smoker.

Of course smokers get it worse, but after so many years your body recovers if you quit.

I know how the 2nd hand smoke works. And you have to have not smoked for at least 10 years before your body recovers near to the point of a non-smoker.

... anyone who tries to get rid of smoking (esspecially in our own homes) is a major Facsist. That is the truth behind this thread.

why? You'd rather let a family member die than take away the freedom to smoke in the family?

If the person wants to smoke, then fine, let them smoke.

And as Blood Rose said, smoking will never go away. It brings in too much money to be gotten rid off.

No one said it has to go away EVERYWHERE, just in enough places to make enough people see reason
