Cin
Smoking will not be stopped, sad fact of life. You can tell people, but they will still smoke, unless they have the will power to stop. Even if you do stop, it takes a long time for the risk to reduce... Just another case of humans not knowing enough about something before giving it to others. I try to not be near smokers, smoke and aerosol spray irritate my asthma, atleast I don't have my nearly daily exposure to 2nd hand smoke I used to get on the way to school anymore. I used to always pull my jacket up over my nose. Making it illegal like a prohibition would fail like the prohibition of alcohol in the US failed. Sometimes not even a death in the family will stop people, my 2nd cousin (probably not blood relation, but that's a different story) still smokes, even though my Gran contracted Lung Cancer. Second Hand smoke does kill, because of what it contains, illness/deaths/problems from the following have been attributed to second hand smoke:Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Coronary Heart Disease - Increases risk. 50%AsthmaLung Cancer - 20% increase risk if your spouse is a long term smoker. Respiratory Tract InfectionsInflammation of the Middle Ear. Erectile Dysfunction - Increased risk (worse if you're a smoker)Low Birth Weight. - Linking to other infant health issues.Children have a lower chance of successful surgery - 70% compared to 90% in smoke free home.(Multi Source: located on Tobacco-Facts.info.) Rag 30 mins is enough to effect a passive-smoker. Of course smokers get it worse, but after so many years your body recovers if you quit.

And you have to have not smoked for at least 10 years before your body recovers near to the point of a non-smoker.
Bakura Vessal
perhaps, but some 2nd hand smokers aren't like that. They exploit every advantage to the full: the moment smoke go down, they go nuts. It'll also have to depend on how long they have been high too
