Fixing the Spellbound Set

Way, way back when I joined a little over a year ago, I created a Set known as the "Spellbound/Mellaxis" set, and it was . . . well, it was a first try at card-making, meaning that my OCG was off, everything was disorganized, and nearly every card in the Set was broken.

 

So, this is my attempt at fixing the Set. I've corrected all instances of "may" to "can", and I'm wording my effects better. Any cards I have yet to fix will be in the first spoiler, those I've already fixed are in the second.

 

To point out what the Set does, effectively every member must be generally splashable into SOMETHING, but it gains a second ability that makes it really shine once Special Summoned by "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis".

Spellbound Aerial

WIND - Level 4 - Winged Beast/Effect - 1200/1400

There can be only one "Spellbound Aerial" on the field at any point in time. If your opponent activates an effect that would destroy or negate one of your Spell or Trap cards, one of your opponent's Spell or Trap cards is destroyed instead. As long as this monster is face-up on your side of the field, your opponent may not have 2 or more monsters on the field with 3000 ATK or higher- if they do, send monsters back to their hand until they don't. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", raise the ATK and DEF of all "Spellbound" monsters on your side of the field by 100 for every Spell and Trap card in the Graveyard.

 

Spellbound Android

FIRE - Level 4 - Machine/Effect - 1500/1700

There can be only one "Spellbound Android" on the field at any point in time. When this monster is Special Summoned, declare a monster Type. As long as this monster is face-up on the field, all monsters on your opponent's side of the field of the declared Type have their effects negated. If this monster battles a monster of the declared Type, destroy only the other monster immediately (conduct damage calculation normally afterwards). If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis" and the "Spellbound" monster of the declared Type is face-up on your side of the field, this monster can not stop attacking until all monsters of the declared Type on your opponent's side of the field are destroyed.

 

Spellbound Archangel

LIGHT - Level 4 - Fairy/Effect - 800/800

There can be only one "Spellbound Archangel" on the field at any point in time. If another monster's ATK is increased, raise the ATK of this monster by an equivalent amount. If this monster is in Defense Position, the ATK of all monsters on your opponent's side of the field is treated as 0. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", this monster gains ATK and DEF equal to the ATK and DEF of the most recently Summoned "Spellbound" monster. (If "Spellbound Archangel" was the most recently Summoned "Spellbound" monster, this effect does nothing).

 

Spellbound Cloud Servant

WIND - Level 4 - Thunder/Effect - 600/0

There can be only one "Spellbound Cloud Servant" on the field at any point in time. You can send his card from your side of the field or hand to destroy all monsters on your opponent's side of the field. Discard one card from your hand to the Graveyard to destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", if "Mellaxis" or a "Spellbound" monster would the field by your opponent's card effect, change the battle position of this card to change that target of that effect to any other card on the field.

 

Spellbound Golem

EARTH - Level 4 - Rock/Tuner/Effect - ?/?

There can be only one "Spellbound Golem" on the field at any point in time. Once per turn, during either player's turn, you can change this monster's Level to any number between 1 and 12. This monster's original ATK is treated as its current Level x400. This monster can replace any 1 Fusion Material monster. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", it gains the following effect:

If this monster left the field to Special Summon a monster from your Extra Deck, Special Summon it to your side of the field during the End Phase of this turn.

 

Spellbound Gorgon

FIRE - Level 4 - Reptile/Effect - 0/3000

There can be only one "Spellbound Gorgon" on the field at any point in time. This monster can only be Summoned in Defense Position. If this monster is an attack target, lower the opposing monster's ATK by this monster's current DEF. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", flip all cards on your opponent's side of the field face-down. None of those cards may be flipped face-up or have their effects activated until this monster has been off the field for 3 turns.

 

Spellbound Great White

WATER - Level 4 - Fish/Effect - 900/1200

There can be only one "Spellbound Great White" on the field at any point in time. As long as this monster is in Defense position (face-up or not), it cannot leave the field unless its controller Tributes it or destroys it by card effect. If your opponent tries to remove this card from the field while it is in Defense Position, raise its ATK and DEF by 100. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis" and it is forced out of Defense Position by a card's effect, reverse its ATK and DEF and triple them.

 

Spellbound I frit

FIRE - Level 4 - Pyro/Effect - 500/500

There can be only one "Spellbound Ifrit" on the field at any point in time. As long as this card is face-up on the field, declare a result for all coin flips and die rolls. Your declared result is treated as the result of the coin/die. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", your opponent must flip a coin to Normal Summon, Tribute Summon, or Set. If the result is heads, the monster is Summoned successfully. If tails, the monster is not Summoned. (This effect continues after "Spellbound Ifrit" leaves the field).

 

Spellbound Jungle Child

EARTH - Level 4 - Beast-Warrior/Effect - 1000/1000

There can be only one "Spellbound Jungle Child" on the field at any point in time. If your opponent activates a Trap Card, or the effect of a card with "Trap" in its name, negate it immediately. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", if "Spellbound Beast King" or "Spellbound Aerial" are also on your side of the field, increase their ATK by the current ATK of this monster.

 

Spellbound Pterrano

WIND - Level 4 - Dinosaur/Effect - ?/?

There can be only one "Spellbound Pterrano" on the field at any point in time. This monster can only be Special Summoned from the Graveyard. This monster's ATK and DEF are treated as 200 times the number of cards in the Graveyard. If this monster is the only monster on your side of the field, it can attack your opponent's Life Points directly. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", every time this monster deals damage to your opponent's Life Points, your opponent flips their Deck face-down and discards the bottom (now top) card of their Deck to the Graveyard.

 

Spellbound Reaper

DARK - Level 4 - Fiend/Effect - 1400/500

There can be only one "Spellbound Reaper" on the field at any point in time. Every time this monster inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, your opponent must send one Spell or Trap card on their side of the field to the Graveyard. If your opponent has no Spell or Trap cards on the field, they must discard the top card of their Deck to the Graveyard instead (negate any effects that card has). If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", increase the ATK and DEF of all "Spellbound" monsters you control by 300 every time a card enters the Graveyard.

 

Spellbound Swarm Queen

WIND - Level 4 - Insect/Effect - 900/1000

There can be only one "Spellbound Swarm Queen" on the field at any point in time. If your opponent declares an attack on this monster, roll a six-sided die. Increase this monster's ATK and DEF by 100 times the result. If the result is 1, destroy the attacking monster and negate ts attack. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", this monster gains an extra attack for every Spell Counter you remove from "Mellaxis". If you activate this effect, skip your next Draw Phase.

Spellbound Thorn Maiden

DARK - Level 4 - Plant/Effect - 600/400

There can be only one "Spellbound Thorn Maiden" on the field at any point in time. As long as this card is face-up on the field, your opponent may not negate the Summon of any of your monsters. Raise this monster's ATK and DEF by 100 times the number of Spell Counters on the field. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis" and it or any "Spellbound" monster is an attack target, lower the attacking monster's ATK by 200 times the number of Plant-type and "Spellbound" monsters on the field (this card counts twice).

Spellbound Vampiress

DARK - Level 4 - Zombie/Effect - 800/900

There can be only one "Spellbound Vampiress" on the field at any point in time. If any monster on your side of the field or in your Graveyard (including this card) would be removed from play, pay 300 Life Points to Special Summon it to your side of the field instead. Monsters Special Summoned this way gain 300 ATK and DEF until the third End Phase after this effect was activated. During your Battle Phase, you may lower the ATK and DEF of one monster on your side of the field by 300 to let this monster attack twice this turn. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Mellaxis", you gain 100 Life Points every time this monster declares an attack.

Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis

DARK - Level 3 - Spellcaster/Effect - 600/700

Once per turn, you can discard up to 2 cards in your hand to your opponent: Special Summon "Spellbound" monsters from your hand or Graveyard equal to the number of cards you discarded.

 

Spellbound Swordswoman

LIGHT - Level 4 - Warrior/Effect - 1700/1500

Cannot be Set. Cannot be Special Summoned, except by the effect of "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis". There can be only 1 "Spellbound Swordswoman" face-up on the field at a time. This monster is unaffected by all card effects, except the effect of "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis". If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis", it gains the following effect:

If your opponent's card effect would negate the effect of 1 or more "Spellbound" monsters, negate the other card's effect instead.

 

Spellbound Magic Student

DARK - Level 4 - Spellcaster/Effect - 800/2000

There can be only 1 "Spellbound Magic Student" face-up on the field at a time. As long as this monster is face-up on the field, your opponent must reveal every card they draw to you. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis", it gains the following effect:

If your opponent reveals a card to you, and it has an effect that destroys monsters, they must discard it.

 

Spellbound Dracena

DARK - Level 4 - Dragon/Effect - 2400/0

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. There can be only 1 "Spellbound Dracena" face-up on the field at a time. This monster's ATK returns to its original ATK during the End Phase of a turn where its ATK changes. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis", it gains the following effect:

If "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis" or a "Spellbound" monster you control would be destroyed, you can decrease this monster's ATK by 300 to negate the destruction.

 

Spellbound Snow Woman

WATER - Level 4 - Aqua/Effect - 400/1800

There can be only 1 "Spellbound Snow Woman" face-up on the field at a time. If your Life Points are increased, except by this card's effect, inflict an equivalent amount of damage to your opponent's Life Points. If a card you control, except "Spellbound Snow Woman", inflicts damage to your opponent's Life Points, increase your Life Points by an equivalent amount. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis", it gains the following effect:

Increase your Life Points by 400 every time you Special Summon a "Spellbound" monster.

 

Spellbound Beast King

EARTH - Level 4 - Beast/Effect - 1600/800

There can be only 1 "Spellbound Beast King" face-up on the field at a time. If this monster destroys your opponent's monster by battle, increase this monster's ATK by half the destroyed monster's original ATK. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis", it gains the following effect:

This monster inflicts piercing Battle Damage.

 

Spellbound Deepsea Terror

WATER - Level 4 - Sea Serpent/Effect - 1800/600

There can be only 1 "Spellbound Deepsea Terror" on the field at a time. If this monster inflicts Battle Damage, increase your Life Points by the amount of damage inflicted. If this monster was Special Summoned by the effect of "Studious Sorcerer Mellaxis", it gains the following effect:

Increase this monster's ATK by 200 times the number of face-up "Spellbound" monsters you control, except "Spellbound Deepsea Terror".

Mellaxis: This card is broken as hell. It creates easy +2s, at the fake cost of revealing cards. Revealing cards means nothing, advantage-wise, and using it as a cost is a joke.

 

Swordswoman: A monster that is unaffected by card effects, while also being able to be summoned for free by the previous broken card, AND also negate the things it destroys, AND prevents other effects from being negated? Seriously?

 

Magic Student: Cool, so now the +2 mellaxis is a +3. Sure. Why not. Oh, and you get to see every card they draw. And if it was summoned by the guy who just summons stuff for free, your opponent is now incapable of drawing into destruction. Sure.

 

Dracena: Oh, so a level 4 2400 beater that can't be normal summoned. Reminds me of Rare Metal Dragon. Here is the issue. Your free summon guy summons this. For free. Hence me calling him free summon guy. Oh, and it prevents destruction of your guys. Oh, and it makes itself an even bigger beater (easy as hell to make into a 2800 beater)

 

Snow Woman: So... it supports lifegain in an archetype that doesn't gain life..? Oh wait! She can give you life... but she is really bad at it... This card is fair, I guess, but is also just plain trash. Oh, wait, it isn't trash, BECAUSE IT CAN BE SUMMONED FOR FREE BY FREE SUMMON GUY. Literally broken by its name.
