Magic Nationals Invitations to Yu-Gi-Oh! Players

Recommended Posts

Hey, my name is Eric Sorensen and I work with Wizards of the Coast. We’re sorry to hear that your National Championship got canceled, so I wanted to pop in and make sure that you heard what Wizards of the Coast announced today:

Wizards of the Coast today announced that invitations to the Magic: The Gathering® National Championships will be extended to qualified Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game players in response to the recent announcement that their National Championships are canceled.

“We respect the accomplishments of all high-level tournament players,” said Chris Galvin, VP of Organized Play for Wizards of the Coast. “We’d like to do what we can to honor their achievements and keep them gaming.”

Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game players who hold an invitation to the Yu-Gi-Oh! US or Canadian Nationals that were scheduled to take place this year will be welcomed to come play Magic at the equivalent Magic: The Gathering Nationals in summer 2009. Interested players can simply contact the Wizards Game Support team by visiting http://wizards.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wizards.cfg/php/enduser/doc_serve.php?2=magic or by calling 1-800-324-6496.

The trademark Yu-Gi-Oh! is owned by Shueisha, Inc. in the United States and may be pending or registered in other countries. Wizards of the Coast is not endorsed or sponsored by, or affiliated with, Shueisha or Konami.

Thanks for the considerations Sparky, but I think I'll be sitting out. No offense, but it really is touching to see that the Magic community would extend itself to the Yu-Gi-Oh community.

This is due to the fact that MTG is overly better than YGO, but that is a different story. ;)

It will be amusing seeing noobs.

That's very nice of WotC. I mean, it's obviously a very transparent attempt to catch players jumping ship from YGO, but it's still nice.

I know MTG, I've plated for a long time, and I have to say;

that game is much more unforgiving than Yugioh in professional play.

I mean when one of the best players wins on turn one with an attack that reaches into yugioh numbers when you have only 20 life, it just isn't right.

however, the standard play style makes all the best decks illegal after some time to force new ideas, so all you really have to do is wait 3-4 months for the next 2 sets to come out, and push out some key card that was needed to make that wtf deck not work anymore.

its a nice attempt but I can't but say that if I enjoyed MTG as much as Yugioh, I wouldn't really be in this site.

Its some commersial attempt to turn some Yugioh players into MTG players.. I'm curious to see how many people will actually switch...
