Ominous Fortunetelling

Recommended Posts

Mini-burn plus being able to keep an eye on your opponent's hand. It's actually pretty good.

Slowness and unreliability of burning effect is what I think keeps this card from going anywhere at all.

But it's not the burning part I like. I like the ability to keep tabs on your opponent's hand.

I dislike the whole random thing. You could just be seeing the same card continuously, plus seeing just one card per turn would only help for slower games. And even then, I don't see that much potential. I guess it's convenient to know that the opponent has a heavy storm waiting for you...

Well, if by some dumb streak of bad luck you did end up seeing the same card repeatedly, you could just call the same Type over and over, thus ensuring you'd do 700 damage (and if you suddenly got a different card, that's good too). Not to say this card is amazing for that, just saying.

There are easier and better ways of looking at your opponent's hand.

Name some of them' date=' so that we can better compare the cards.

Well here is a mini combo to use with it

eye of truth

ominous fortunetelling

bad reaction to simochi

You keep an eye on their hand, deal 700 points of damage each turn and deal a possible 1000 points of damage if they draw a spell.

Dustshoot is the best. Mind Haxorz can see the hand for a small cost.

Spiritual Water Art - Aoi is good but attribute specific.

Machina Fortress can see the hand and discard too.

Dustshoot is limited, Haxor costs Life Points (and while it does show the entire hand, as well as other cards, it still has the same slowness problem as Ominous), Machina only works when he's targeted (and is a Level 7 monsters), and Spiritual Art requires you tribute a WATER monster to use.

Save for Dust, all of those cards have worse conditions for using their peek effects than Ominous Fortunetelling has, not to mention they don't get to do this once per turn. Only condition for peeking for Ominous is it can only be done on your Standby Phase.

Why not just hang a giant mirror on the wall behind your opponent?

Yuo won't have the burn' date=' but you won't lose any card advantage either!

Mirror Behind the Opponent

Moronic Trap Card

You may see all the cards in your opponent's hand and all cards they draw for the entire duel if you pay enough attention. However, you are disqualified from the tournament or current duel for cheating.

I'm not seeing how you'd lose any advantage other than the option of putting something else in it's place. And if that's your logic, then you start a duel at -40 to -90 advantage. (40 is just the deck and 90 is a 60 card deck, a full side deck, and a full extra deck.)

I'd play Dustshoot and Mind Haxorz over this. at least you see everything with Haxorz rather then a random card per turn. It's my personal preference I guess.

Well, Dustshoot is an obvious one. Not only does it show your opponent's hand, but it also returns a card to their deck, possibly causing a dead draw the next turn. That's why it's limited.
