Well there's two types of fanservice. 'Regular' fanservice, which is really easy to ignore. And less obvious to the untrained eye, 'mecha' fanservice. Combination attacks are the latter.

 

Emulators my friend, very easy to get one for SRWOG and considering Japan's take on releasing the Z series and the rest (which I believe is one of the only crossovers to actually have a good plot) puts everyone in a bad position in the NA. =/

 

And really, it depends on how much you enjoy absolute GAR moments. That's what the series boils down to, it was a good watch and I'm looking to rewatch it, but the bottomline is that. Badassness and fanservice. There is plot and it tells the events of the game accurately and it's a good watch but still.

I thought regular fanservice was simply nostalgia factor or something that people praise because it's a call back to earlier installments or adaptations? Fanservice just lost all meaning and now apparently is the word for showing boobs and whatnot.

 

Eh, emulators are nice and all, but I prefer playing the actually thing in my hand like you're meant to, although I do want to find some Alpha emulators now.

 

So basically, it's nothing more than mindless action? I can deal with that.

More onto the topic...i like Gurren Lagann because it offered a deep and insightful look into the condition of the human spirit. And the vitality of our race as a whole. It was much more than energy charged giant robot drill smashing awesomeness. It was a journey into the very soul of what makes us...human...

It does have nostalgia fanservice (I flipped my s*** when I saw the Aussenseiter/Dygenguar in all their anime glory.) but as stated twice before, it wouldn't effect you. The anime is different from the game to the point where it's kind of like a shonen version, there's fanservice, action, no one dies for a while (EXCEPT THAT ONE GUY BUT HIS DEATH WAS GLORIOUS), action, aliens, and action.

 

The point being, if you can put up with a shonen-ized mecha anime then go for it. It's funny at times, absolutely badass other times, still has a consistent plot that actually gets finished, and tells the story of the second game pretty damn accurately. (Oh hey TTGL, then again they did it right.)

 

If you want mindless action though, go play a Dynasty Warriors game. SRW has been and always will be about over-the-top moves and attacks.

 

And the only reason I recommended an emulator is that the games are quite old and hard to get a hold of. SRWOG wasn't that popular (as of now it manages to hold a good fanbase though.) so it's next to impossible or just expensive. =/

 

@Nex: I said drills were serious business, apparently enough to use as the engines of a super robot.
