Today we have Traps like Solemn Jedgement that can Nuke almost anything but back then we had Cards like these http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/White_Hole http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Anti_Raigeki I'll be honest, I actually ran Anti Raigeki when the TCG first came along.
