Bringerofcake
So, I'm talking with my local card shop employee, and he mentions that Wizards has an R&D department with people who play the game and test for flaws. I had known about it before, but this time I got to thinking... Discuss why Konami doesn't do this, and how much better the game would be if it did. Would the banlist even be necessary if it had an R&D department?
Manjoume Thunder
they do it the problem is that there are things that influence the list and card design a lot more than this testing And why do you think that a small group of players can find every flaw in a game?
I don't think that a small group of players could find every flaw. I do think, however, that they would help eliminate the larger flaws before they become problematic to the game. Zeppeli Gyro Supreme
Pretty much every company has a test group for their products. The ones who don't usually end up being the ones who go under. The problem is that test groups can't figure out everything in the game, and if they're unlucky enough they wont figure out any of the ways that cards could be abused. TheTurtleOnceCalledGod
I thought it would be less obvious than that.
Sadly, most companies must sell their soul to the almighty dolor (or whatever currency they currently use). That means doing what would fool little kids into thinking its awesome, and buy the cards, leave them unharmed on the banlist for a short while, then limit them or ban them to have the kids buy new cards to build strong net decks. Toffee.
money
Add to it, some idiot who is "playtesting" the new archetype is always like: "DANG IT GUISE, THE ONLY REASON THIS ARCHETYPE CANT POSSIBLE BE ANY MORE OVERPOWERED IS BECAUSE IT LACKS AN OVERPOWERED BOSS MONSTER. HINT. HINT." ........ And then Judgment Dragon gets printed. And then the rest of Konami's crew is all happy now because: "HEI GUYS, THIS IS SO FUNNY. WE JUST PRINTED THAT AWESOME CARD AS A SECRET RARE, AND ARE GETTING TUCKLOADS OF MONEY FROM IT"
Dr. Cakey
And why do you think that a small group of players can find every flaw in a game?
Maybe not every flaw, but maybe they could figure out that an infinitely reviving monster whose only restriction is being unable to be used in a game mechanic only recently added, and revives based on monsters who quickly fill the Graveyard, and have a mechanism for putting an unlimited number of monsters in the Graveyard. If you didn't guess, I'm talking about Ronintoadin. Or maybe a ridiculously easy to summon monster that can get almost anything off the field at your whim? Azmodius
This is why magic is a better game. They have more prize support, Pro Tours, Paid Judges, Legit Artists (Not saying yugioh doesn't have good art, just no named artists on the cards), and Magic tends to be more serious of a game in general, Konami cares more about money, not saying Yugimonz isn't a great game too.
