When Pokemon was released, people made connections to the occult. When Harry Potter was released, people made connections to the occult. Why is it that everyone easily relatable to the occult end up being huge money-making series?

It's probably the occult.

Odds are, anyone smart will still say "Tech Genus" the same way everyone says "Red Eyes Black Dragon". Why IS that named "Red Eyes B. Dragon" anyway?

My guess is that Yugioh cards have a "limit" on the number of characters the card name can contain.

But they have the properly word written upside that TG
TG (テックジーナス)
But it doesnt make much sense when other archetypes, specifically, E-Heros and [D](Formers), all ended up with a stretched-out name.

Then abbreviating Tech Genus inspired that much rage? Aren't they written TG in Japanese anyway?
What they do is use English letters like Kanji, with the letters as identifiers for the Archetype. For example, all Blackwings have 'BF' and "Buraku Feza" above the letters. Same for E-Heroes, D-Heroes, etc. and the "<Symbols -> Infinity Character -> Ctrl+C" in the names of the Machine Emperors. Mek what?

Konami fails at failing. They're that bad. Although I do grant that 'Tech Genus' doesn't really mean anything...

EDIT: Just in case things aren't clear enough, it's like this:

Teku Jinasu
TG Wanda Majishan

I take their name to mean that they are of the made up Genus, Tech, which makes much more sense when they had their original effect of being half machine. That's mainly why I was upset with that part of the effect being removed.

Ah. I can't read kanji.

Oh, my mistake. What's the difference?

To my knowledge katakana is what the Japanese use to spell English words. It's somewhat like our alphabet. I'm no pro but I can read a tiny bit of katakana. Provided it's an English word being spelled out.

Note: I'm not any sort of Japanese Major of course =o

Hiragana and Katakana are basically symbols which represent the sounds/syllables in Japanese. Think of them like letters if you want, but basically, you would put the sounds together to make words, like the English Alphabet. Kanji is a lot more complex, and can signify many things, and since I don't know the specifics, I wont bother trying to explain x.x In any case, Hiragana and Katakana make the same sounds and all, so they sound no different from each other, but Katakana is usually used for foreign words.

"Tech Genus" is written in Katakana as テックジーナス, or in Romaji as "Tekkujiinasu". If you tried to read the romaji, you can see how it can turn into Tech Genus (Tekku Jiinasu) in English. Remember that "Tekku Jiinasu" is written with the Japanese characters/syllables, so its not going to sound exactly like "Tech Genus" to us in English, but as close as they could get using their vocal system.

Tuner monsters in Japanese have "Tuner" written in katakana on the card (as Chuunaa). In any case, even just knowing Katakana helps to pick out English words thrown about in Japanese text though :o

The criticism attracts more people to take a look at it. Most of said people then proceed to note that it doesn't look like something a reasonable person would complain about. Then they decide to give the series a try, and voila!

...Also, ITT:
Furigana = "written upwards"
Katakana = Kanji

>____>

...owait, darkwolf already fielded that problem.

The one thing I like at Pojo is the general decktype dicussion threads. I'm gonna try to turn this thread into one of those.

So to run Tech Genus I've been thinking that Kinka-Byo might be good in the deck:

Summon Kinka-Byo, bring back Effect Veiler/Cyber Magician

Synchro Formula, Draw 1

Special Summon Werewolf

Synchro 5

It's a +0 combo that turns two cards in hand into a card in hand and a 1900+ Beatstick.

If you decide to summon Wonder Magician then you get a +1

What are other combos that can be run in Tech Genus?
