This topic is assuming 2 things -

1) Exceed monsters WILL make it into the meta
2) When an Exceed monster is turned face down, the overlaid monsters go to the graveyard (based on the logic of limiting book of moon)

So, that being said -
An opponent's monster that battles this card is changed to face-down Defense Position at the end of the Damage Step.
Do you think this is going to make any future progress in the meta, since it pretty much screws over an exceed monster? And yes, the cat does it better, but this thing might survive the attacks UNTIL they get to the exceed monster.

I see no benefit to flipping them Exceeds into face-down Defense Position due to a card like this. If you're just going to wait for this to be attacked, use Legendary Jujitsu Master or Wall of Illusion and just BANISH IT TO WHERE IT ONCE CAME.

Neither Legendary Jujitsu Master nor Wall of Illusion have names that are as fun to say as Gonogo

True.

If its effect happens at the end of the Damage Step, does that mean it fails to go through if Gonogo is destroyed?

it should still work.

If you're asking due to the Double Tool C&D discussion, I think the real reason why Double Tool C&D doesn't work is because if the monster it is equipped with is destroyed by Battle during the opponent's turn, then Double Tool C&D's effect is no longer applied to that destroyed monster immediately after Damage Calculation. You can't apply the effects of an Equip Card that isn't equipped properly to that monster anymore :o Double Tool C&D, as an equip card, can only apply its effects while it is still equipped to a monster.

Since Gonogo, Legendary Juijutsu Master, Wall of Illusion, etc's effects are inherent, they still work even after being destroyed by battle since they do not lose those effects when they're destroyed in the same way losing Double Tool C&D does.

So, if Goyo destroys it, does Goyo have the chance to use it's effect? I think so...

I believe so. "At the End of the Damage Step" should be the final effects of the "Damage Step". Cards that activate based on a Phase (or part of a phase) do not chain to other effects and would always be Chain Link 1. Goyo Guardian would activate when the monsters are sent to the Graveyard, then resolve successfully, to Special Summon Gonogo. But this brings up a pretty good question now that I think about it:

Gonogo does say "An opponent's monster..." If Special Summoned by Goyo Guardian this way, would Gonogo not activate since it would be face-up Defense Position on Goyo's side of the field and is no longer "an opponent's monster"? :o
