Resident Fascist
A few years ago my computer got a virus that allowed someone else to litterally CONTROL it. It'd turn itself on and off at anytime, download stuff, keylog everything that I typed since I had the computer and practicially annihalated everything. The only way to get rid of it was to unplug it and replug it in and hope that the fat-40 year old in the basement was too busy talking to his mom so we could system restore it. We had to reboot vista. Just to get rid of the virus and all the useless crap he'd downloaded. Seriously. We had to start the computer again, How I got the virus? Not a clue. Though it only happened after I followed a link to a RS Fansite...It's amazing what people are like...Iirc, I checked the site again like after we got rid of the virus, the site was gone. CeDeFiA
I got this one virus that made any window I open redirect me to this one site that does a virus sweep. It was all like, 'I wanna go on paint!' -THIS FILE IS CORRUPTED, QUICK, GO TO THIS SITE TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE CORRUPTED- I'd try to exit out of the site, but it said the button was corrupted. So I had to sit there in horror while my computer became more and more infected. Luckily, this computer was a cheap old netbook I got for free. Sorrow.
So I was at my friends house with my other friend an they were watching porn while I was playing a video game, then they downloaded porn and got a virus... Later on the guy who downloaded the pron virus had to go some where I dunno church? And then me and my friend started playing video games, out of no where we hear a scream. We run to see what it was and it was his 8 year old sister with a WTF face staring at the monitor which had a really disturbing 2 girls 1 cup pop up, she said she wanted to go on Disney channel. Then his parents came up who inconveniently were those strict Asian parents, and looked at the monitor and said, " Why is she sucking her sh*t!?!? What the F*ck is this?" in some hilarious accent. So they had to remove the virus and then they called up the perv child. Moral of this story, never invite your perverted friends over.
J-Max
Got a nasty Virus a couple of weeks back that disabled all EXE Extensions. Trying to open them would launch a Fake Anti Virus Program. Luckily I remained calm and used my PSP to find out the problem and downloaded a EXE File restorer. Worked like a charm.

You only need a Mac to stop you having virus problems if you're a total idiot, most are easy to avoid with common sense and basic anti-virus. Expelsword
A lot of times, those redirect EXE virusues can be out raced if you can get to System Restore quickly. It's happened to me twice.

Cin
I remember one i had a few years ago. Shut down IE and MSN and Norton died. Luckily Yahoo Messenger still worked so my friend helped me sorted it. Easy to avoid though never had an issue since. Just let AVG scan be careful what I download and sorted. Mehmani
Easy way to eliminate viruses! 1. Search "system32" on your computer. 2. Find the folder. 3. Delete it. All your viruses disappear! 4. ?????? 5. PROFIT!?!?! Being serious, I use BitDefender. Reasonably priced and uses up very little memory.

Dark
All of the viruses I've encountered were either shown to me after Norton killed them, or allowed me access to either Control Panel (and subsequently my Computer files) or the internet. I've only had to fix two or three viruses in my life, and all were relatively easy. As long as you're not retarded and as long as you don't do shady things on your computer, getting a virus is a pretty hard task.
