Wahrheit
Unacceptable replies to this topic: "ya i seen dat", "omg rly i betr b carful", and other non-contributive random posts etc. I'm trying to teach the greater population of the world something here. As you all know, there are evil people on the internet. They want to hate you, take your money, and ruin your life. What you may not realize, however, is that they don't just randomly pop on to your computer, you have to let them. How do you keep that from happening? Easy. Don't be stupid. The most popular issue these days is the virus going around facebook claiming to be some amazing video that actually hacks your account. If it seems fake, it probably is! Ignore it. Please. My friends are getting hit by this, don't be the dumb person who loses their facebook account or other personal information to some no-lifer. .Starrk
My response. I may be shamelessly promoting this, but still. This is basically what you're talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lP_KFEf2-o
Cozmosus
ya i seen dat. omg rly i betr b carful. Insert other non-contributive post here_______. On a serious note, ya, I've been told by friends that this was happening. One of them had it happen to them. I can't believe people would actually go around taking facebook profiles. It's not very benefiting. Luckily for me, I am neither stupid, nor do I use or have Facebook.
Wahrheit
That's not what I'm talking about in the slightest. The problem as it stands is a lot of people who are technologically inept keep clicking on the stupid quizzes and surveys and profile stalkers and watch this shocking footage links and then their accounts get compromised and their credit cards get stolen and their lives get ruined. I've seen it happen to a few personal friends who I thought were smarter than that, and it's disgusting.
Sorrow.
Why would you even link your Credit Card with your Facebook in the first place? That's completely idiotic.
Wahrheit
The credits system, a la farmville. Keep in mind that if you can log into someone's facebook you can download ALL the data they've EVER posted.
Ярополк Пономарёв
I always use a number of security parameters to keep everything safe, I think i'm internet paranoid.

Always use Incognito Mode.
Use long passwords or fingerprint-scanners.
Run a computer-wide proxy.
Don't use Facebook.
Run the best Antivirus software money can buy.
...
My list is really, really long.
Friend got his account hacked. His hacked account then started sending the video to the people he had down as friends. The only fullproof way of preventing this is following Darkplant's advice. Otherwise, ignore links that say they're to a video that you're on when you don't remember being filmed recently. Xazeon
Or, if you do have a Facebook, like me, you don't click on the links such as "Osama bin Laden's death video" or any link posted by your friends on your wall that looks like spam.
Larxene
"Don't be stupid." Telling this to people on YCM is kinda like talking to a wall. But on topic, I've gotten a computer virus once. But I was like 12 at the time, and it was from some pop up. You really don't want to know where those pop up were coming from. (I was a perverted 12 year old.) I haven't gotten anything since then though. But I really should get some kind of anti virus software just in case, cause something could always happen by mistake. I agree with the don't use Facebook comment though.

Catterjune
Common sense, not being stupid, and not engaging in risky behaviour are the best ways to ensure you never get a virus. Unless you click every link that pops up you shouldn't need to pay for "the best antivirus money can buy" (and even so, I havent seen how Kapersky compares to the free ones like AVG or Avast or MSE). If you feel compelled to pay a stupid tax to use a computer, that's fine too.
