[quote]Synchro Monsters are a type of Monster Card, first released in Starter Deck 2008. The color of their card frame is white. These cards are placed in the Extra Deck.

Synchro Monsters require Tuner Monsters to be face-up on your Field. When the total Level of the Tuner monster and any other face-up monsters on your Field exactly matches the Level of the Synchro Monster you wish to Summon (no more or less), by sending them to the Graveyard, you can "Synchro Summon" the Synchro monster. Some Synchro Monsters require a specific "Tuner Monster" in order to be Synchro Summoned (such as "Junk Synchron" for "Junk Warrior") or monsters of a particular Type or Attribute as Material Monsters, but many do not, so they can be in just about any Extra Deck. Discuss the Mechanic as a whole.

I seriously can't see how the game played before these anymore :o

Synchro > XYZ > Fusion > Ritual > Effect >> Normal

Synchros where the best idea ever. Gives decks with small monsters a Fighting Chance. I remember before Synchros, Monarch Decks where immensely popular, and back then, Caius was considered Broken. Yeah.

It's weird how people used to rely heavily on the Main Deck and partially on the Fusion Cards (particularly GBs) to summon boss monsters. With Synchros, you can run a Deck with NO high-Level monsters and still summon massive things. Synchros aren't actually a broken mechanic in themselves, though. It's just the support they've been given that made the meta for the past 3 years a bit crazy. I think once more Xyz support comes out, then they will be nearly as broken as Synchros.

Well, it was actually good and required some skill to win games unlike now.

The only good format with synchros was the very first one (and it was only good in the tcg because we didn't have Briofag.)

The mechanic was fine but you can't make monstrosities such as Brionac, Librarian and DSF generic and expect a good balanced game.

Why would this be locked? It's a discussion on the synchro mechanic, so it serves a purpose.

Anyway, the original bunch of synchros were horribly made. Over it's a good mechanic, but the ease at which it can be abused cause a lot of problem.

The fact that so many synchros are printed with ridiculous effects and are a joke to summon, summoning restriction or not, has not helped.

Synchro Monsters are good as a mechanic. Having a good use for weak-but-quick-to-Summon monsters is nice.
Too bad they (almost?) completely outclassed Tribute Summons and Fusions.
There is no real balance in the game.
