Field Spell cards

Recommended Posts

When these cards were first around they were obviously different from any other Spell card type. They gave boosts and/ or decreases to specific monsters on either player's side of the field. Now field spell cards have varied from just boosts. Some have destruction effects, some have draw effects, some have grave effects, and some have unique ones like Future Visions. The effecting players and monsters on both sides of the field isn't that unique to them anymore as there are plenty of continuous Spell and Trap cards that do the same thing. The most noticeable difference between them now is that it doesn't occupy a space on the Spell/Trap Card Zone and when another one is placed down the previous one is destroyed.

Do you think there needs to be a distinction to them again? I personally feel that they should stay the same, but there needs to be fewer cards that can destroy spell and trap cards that can destroy Field Spells as well.

I don't see why Field Spells would cease to be affected by cards that destroy Spells and Traps. It's still a Spell.

That'd be like saying a Continuous Trap shouldn't be affected by cards that destroy Normal Traps.

I think you made a mistake :P
You meant Traps...I think.

I'm just waiting for them to make Field Spells into an OTK Engine. Wouldn't even be that hard to do with the fact that they can destroy themselves to place another one on the Field Spell Zone.

Field Spells are just that. They affect the whole field and can be used by both Players. Slightly outclassed by OCG ruling such as "Both players can use this effect" for Continuous Spells & Traps.

There is some tasty Field Spells though.

Love this card.

I was simply making a distinction between Normal Traps (no icon) and Continuous Traps, in that there's no reason why a non-specific destruction card would not work on one of them. There are cards that only destroy a Continuous Spell/Trap, but they're outclassed by things that destroy non-specifically, and there are also cards that only destroy facedown cards (DW Lightning, Delta Crow).

I don't know what the first card is.

The Soul-Binding Gate, I think.

Whenever a monster is Summoned with ATK less than your LP, destroy it and inflict 800 damage to all players.

Or something like that.

I don't think they need to be changed or have less cards to destroy them. A slight difference might shake some things up though.Something like they all have "1 spell counter that doesn't allow them to get destroyed or leave the field once unless replaced by another field spell".

Why the hell would you want more OTKs?

Or...just use Field Barrier.

Each time a Spell Card is activated, place 1 Spell Counter on this card. When a card with a Spell Counter(s) is destroyed, place its Spell Counters on this card. Once per turn, if you would activate a card's effect by removing a Spell Counter(s) from cards you control, you can remove Spell Counters from this card instead. If this card would be destroyed, you can remove 1 Spell Counter from this card instead.

This card kind of already has that clause, along with Rainbow Ruins.

We might actually need more ways to destroy them

Does anyone really use Field Barrier though. I know when I first started posting decks with field cards and included Field Barrier they always told me to get rid of it. Now that i think about anyone I've dueled that uses field spell cards never used it. Another small thing that bothered me is that just some random magician can come up and destroy a whole canyon.
