well, lazily drawn is same as badly drawn imo. People get paid for that. It's not just the background, it lacks overall detail. And even though that's its "style" it definitely could use improvement.

Also, lol, for wattcancel, that's the lame TCG artwork you've seen probably, the OCG is decent.

Well, usually, yes. But I'm pretty sure I've read some trivia about certain cards being uncensored in other languages other than Japanese as well. Never in English though.

A tablet is a substitute for a piece of paper. Whether it's digitally or traditionally drawn, it takes pretty much the same skill. Digital art actually takes even more skill.

And I answered this way because you said yu-gi-oh cards are digitally made and cartoonish whereas you did not say that about MTG art.

And I said generic fantasy and meant it as cliche fantasy. Yet I may be wrong, but that's what I've noticed from what I've seen. But I am yet to see an MTG artwork that strikes me with its originality the same way certain yu-Gi-Oh cards do

And also, yeah, it's something Konami needs to do. These artists deserve to have their names on these cards. Considering there are people who've done not just one but dozens of card designs and are not given the credit they deserve.

1. YGO art has nothing to do with the card. In MtG, Vampire art have vampire-like effect, Birds can fly, etc. Apparently, a shiny ant has the power of boosting monsters on the field in YGO(?)
2. YGO art is not consistent. Design-wise, who thought Foolish Return and Odin, Father of the Aesir would even be in the same set. 1 has the picture of a random guy with flowers, other one is awesome God thing. MtG has consistent art storylines. Cliché fantasy. lololololol. Read please. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/stf/155 Both have fairly original arts, but GOD YGO STICK TO A FEW ART STYLES. I DONT WANT A COMPASS AND A GOD IN THE SAME SET.
3. Cartoonish? MtG art may be digitally made, but made with a tablet in order to imitate traditional artwork. Also, I'm pretty sure at least half the MtG art IS traditionally made anyway. And MtG is [b]not[/b] cartoony. At all. Probably some of the most mature art I've seen.

Only thing bad about him is the lack of an efficient background really. Lucky Stripe itself has a bunch of interesting little details. He looks simple at first but then you notice things like the roulette arm cuffs, etc.

Sorry, I didn't post more dragons or anime girls like most of this topic. I prefer most of the more abstract monsters in the game when it comes to design.

What you just described was why the art is bad. If Konami spent time doing that, it would be good artwork.

But it's not. So yeah, no point crying over spilt milk. lolmetaphor.

And to be honest, dragons are really really bad designs in card games. Unless there is a very big twist on the genre, I usually hate dragons, in any trading card game.

The only good dragons I've seen so far in YGO or MtG are the oriental dragons from Kamiwaga from Magic the Gathering. Everything else may be epic, but bad design anyway.

Just because some art can be "cartoony" doesn't make it bad, not by any means. If anything it adds a more funny aspect to the series of cards that are drawn like that, Roids are an absolutely perfect example of this.

Gyroids do have their unique style. That's why I like them anyway. Cartoonish art works here. I have nothing against cartoon art. Just bad cartoon art.

But then I think, why are they in the same set as a random medieval Japan spy.
