Is it really a threat in any match? It never seemed to win me anything...
Shiina
It's okay, piercing damage is only good if it's used in a pure beatdown deck. Jack Atlas decks are the only ones I can think of that actually win games with this effect.
Sleepy
Back when casual Decks from times of Invation of Chaos, Dark Driceratops really used to hurt me. Jinzo alone was a bit too high in stats for my taste to deal with already. Then there was Airknight Pharsha. He was widely used. Nowadays, not so much, Piercers have interesting stuff, but it isn't enough.
evilfusion
The meta has far more emphasis on aggression than defense these days, aside from Tokens, so Piercing isn't quite as good as it used to be. Other, more disruptive or swarm-based monster effects are preferred than simply inflicting Battle Damage against defending monsters.
Expelsword
Yeah, it seems the plan is to just use card effects to deal with Marshmallon etc. these days.

Toffee.
They need more cards that deal piercing damage :/
RyanAtlus
It's okay, piercing damage is only good if it's used in a pure beatdown deck. Legendary Duelists use a Deck that tries to gather pieces of Exodia. Exodia runs a Deck that tries to gather pieces of Jack Atlus. Amen. OT: I still remember the days of Spear Dragon + Final Attack Orders...
evilfusion
OT: I still remember the days of Spear Dragon + Final Attack Orders...
Which...isn't really a good combo, because Final Attack Orders would flip the opposing monster to Attack Position before comparing ATK/DEF scores. There's a LOT of Piercing cards out. The problem is they're "balanced" by having lower ATK or higher Levels.
Brinolovania
Twin-Sword Maurauder is so damn cool.
IceDorago
Piercing's all good and stuff when it comes on a card being used by a strategy or deck as a bonus to its other purposes (i.e. Bora in Blackwings) but if not, as said earlier, swarm/disruption effects are generally better. Sleepy
Yeah, now that it is mentioned here, the game is more either into attack position or just plain getting rid of the cards that are defending, not pierce through them. Although players DO change monster to Defense Position or Set monsters sometimes as a temporal measure when cornered, it is not a common enough action to grant cards specifically for that. Also, if a player is defending, odds are they might be loosing anyways.
